The final episode of Ron Nasty's Halloween true horror series: One of the biggest cover ups in "horror history" is that Bram Stoker?s Dracula was based on a woman. The sexist society of the time hid the story of Elizabeth Bathory, a Countess of Hungary, and thought a man (Vlad the Impaler) would be more frightening.

This would explain a few things. Not sure how reliable that is though.

To be honest it's quite obvious he was aware of both historical figures and more..

He said that the real Count Dracula had no known accounts of him drinking human blood, but I watched a program on him a few years ago and it did mention that he would sometimes drink blood with his evening meal.

As for Elizabeth Bathory, there are a lot of people who have heard of her. Some of the things he said were slightly different than the things I had read about her, but for the most part, pretty accurate.

That guy had a interesting way of speaking. He paused a lot and emphasized words that didn't need to be. And he kept saying "Vad". He sounded southern. Accents are neat....

Here is a link to some info on Dracula if you want it.

Though, this doesn't mention anything about him drinking blood.

Charles Dicken based Mrs Haversham of Great Expectations on a man.

It is possible that he mixed stuff from more than one person to suit his needs and sell the book better.
