lol, I needed the long nap anyway with this baby. . . :-)
I love the last two installments, you have a way of building up the anticipation for the reader when you write. I think that is what I enjoy the most about reading your fiction. I hope you will continue on and I was thinking that you should post this llnk in your sig so people know about your fiction. It might allow you to get some more feedback. Especially since I usually have only praise for you.
Hope all is well,

Been quite awhile since I've posted anything in this thread. This is not an installment on the last piece. This is something new... We'll see where it goes...
~~~~~~~~~~
She sat there waiting in eager anticipation. Time ticked by slowly as her fingers drummed against the table. It was all she could do not to pace the room. Sitting absolutely still was out of the question. There was no true reason for the energy that coarsed through her veins. Boredom had simply morphed from its normal stupor into this more rare form of energy trapped in a body with no outlet.
Music filled the room and echoed off the walls. The window let in a gentle breeze, but everything else was quiet and still. It was almost an unnatural sensation. As if the world had decided to lull itself to sleep and she was the only one who could not drift after impossible dreams.
She looked at the phone, wishing that it would ring and a voice on the other end would give her some temporary relief. Things were quite bad if she was longing for a phone call that she normally would grudgingly accept. Every other outlet that normally seemed inviting felt old and used up. As if the world had turned shades of grey coated in dust and debris from the monotony of everyday.
Her heart seemed to flutter and beat faster than normal. Energy lay curled in her muscles like a cat preparing to pounce on some unsuspecting prey. Yet, there was still nothing in sight. It seemed a waste to be sitting inside, alone when so much potential lay out in the streets of the night. The moon did not shine in that dark though. It left more secrets hidden than what was proper. It was acting like life at the moment. Holding back promises of what lay behind the shadows, leaving curiousity to well into grand proportions.
This new installment is very different. The character seems so much less in control, reminds me of more what I feel like on a daily basis. But I must say dear, I love your fiction. You have a way of saying things that comes across as smooth as glass, but soft like velvet. Hope all is well. . .
I'm not sure if I like this one or not. I'm also not sure if I should keep going with it. At the moment... I'm going to leave it and see if inspiration comes back to make it better.
She awoke in her bed unsure of why she had opened her eyes. It was still pitch black outside and not a sound could be heard except the faint rustle of the wind through her closed window. Then she realized that the bed was shaking. Was it a dream? It took her a moment to realize that she was not still sleeping; it was just a small rolling earthquake. Not so uncommon for southern California.
Claire rolled her head on the pillow enough to see the gleaming red light shine the time as being 4:08am. She closed her eyes and tried to sink back into the oblivion of sleep. A few moments later she realized it was pointless. Now that she was awakened her mind went back to whirring over all the problems in her life at the moment. She rolled onto her back and let a sigh escape her lips. Staring at the ceiling, Claire wondered if she should simply get up or lay here in the warm covers until boredom finally drifted her back into sleep. The longer she stared at the plain white ceiling, the more awake she seemed to feel. With the decision seemingly made for her, Claire slipped out of bed and went to the bathroom.
As she splashed a bit of water onto her face, Claire decided to go for an early morning walk. She slipped as quietly as possible back into her room to slip on an old pair of jeans, a sweatshirt and her jogging shoes. She grabbed her phone off the charger and slipped it into her pocket. Again she tried to stay as quiet as possible while heading down the squeeky stars so as not to wake her roommate. It always seemed that the quieter you wanted to be the louder the noises seemed to become. Claire didn't worry too much though; Amber could sleep through almost anything. At the bottom of the stairs, Claire picked her keys off the hook and slipped them in her second pocket.
The early morning air was crisp and cool against her skin. The night was still dark without even a shade of grey to the east. So, I guess this is what 4am looks like, she thought. Her feet took her down the normal path to the trail that led into the hills behind their condo. She didn't really worry about her safety, even while taking a walk in the middle of the night. It was a safe neighborhood and Claire rarely saw anyone on the trails even when it was good weather and the middle of the afternoon or early evening. The hills were one of her favorite places to go. She was able to simply walk without running into another soul and let her mind find peace in the smell of the dirt and the trees and the small sounds of wildlife. The chatter in her head was always slowed than stopped by the feel of a breeze against her face or the sun beating down upon her.
The moon this evening seemed to have the same calming affect she found as she climbed up the trail deeper into the hills. The chill of the air had a small bite on her throat as she took in a deep breath of the fresh air. Taking a walk at four in the morning was a rather odd occurance for Claire. Then again, it seemed as though nothing in her life was normal at the moment. Her work was filled with problems while she was understaffed and her coworkers were always bickering. Her best friend had recently moved to Nebraska, of all places, to be with her fiance. Her love life was still emptier than the trail she was traveling. All of her probelms from the past weeks seemed to be weighing her down. The more she though of her problems the less she wanted to deal with them. With that realization, Clire decided to try and let her mind be distracted. She arched her neck back to watch the stars a moment while she continued on the dirt path. Few rocks littered her way, only having to move around a large boulder every now and again.
As she looked up at the inky sky she realized how bright the moon was tonight. It was more than three-quarters full and seemed extra large in the heavens. While she looked back down on the trail to check for pebbles, Claire realized that was why it was so easy to be traveling the familiar trail. Shadows from the bushes and the scraggly trees criss-crossed the trail as the moon shown so brightly. Nothing seemed to move in that ghostly wastelnd. All the lizards and birds and squirrels were asleep. Only a few insects made faint sounds off in the distance. The silence seemed to fill up the world as she continued to place one foot in front of the other.
Claire walked around another bend which was the place she knew marked the halfway point on the trail before it looped back towards where her condo complex was. She checked her watch to see it was already close to five. She climbed up onto her favorite rock that was normally warm from sitting in the sun and had a nice indent that was perfect to lean against. She decided to stay just for a few moments and watch as a few whisps of clouds passed over the star strewn sky. Claire was laying with an arm behind her head when she saw the first meteor flash across the sky. Before she could gasp at the unexpected site she saw another scream across the night sky. It was at this point that she vaguely remembered hearing about a meteor shower scheduled for this morning being mentioned on the news the day before. As she lay there watching the bright stars dancing across the sky, she made a wish on each one. Each asking for small favors to possibly make the amount of stress in her life a little easier or bring a bit of happiness back into it.
Wow.... I can't believe I haven't stopped by here in almost 2 years.... Where does the time go?
I think I want to re-read what I've read. Perhaps I will come up with something new or add on to something old. If anyone has comments or constructive criticism... please feel free to reply. Thanks,
~M*
I haven't written any type of story in quite a long time. I would like to try something again.... just not sure which direction to take it. If anyone has any suggestions... a name for a character or a location or time where it takes place.... suggestions would be appreciated.
If anyone has one of the old stories they would like to see resurrected or constructive criticism, that would be appreciated as well.
Thanks to anyone who reads,
