Horror Writers Association Announces
2003 Lifetime Achievement Award Winners
Dateline May 10, 2004
Each year, the Horror Writers Association presents the Bram Stoker Awards, named in honor of the author of the seminal horror novel Dracula, for superior achievement in the horror genre.
The Bram Stoker Award for Lifetime Achievement is the most prestigious of these awards, given in acknowledgment of superior achievement not just in a single work but in an entire career. Individuals must be at least sixty years of age or have been published for a minimum of thirty-five years to be considered eligible for the award. Previous winners have included such noted authors as Stephen King, J.N. Williamson, Ramsey Campbell, Charles Grant and Ray Bradbury.
This year, the Horror Writers Association will present the award to both bestselling author Anne Rice and to award-winning editor Martin H. Greenberg.
Anne Rice is the author of more than 26 novels, including the bestselling Vampire Chronicles and Mayfair Witches series. Her works have been translated into more than eight languages and her novels, Interview with a Vampire and Queen of the Damned, have both been made into feature films.
Martin H. Greenberg has published over 900 works in virtually every genre and is one of the premier anthologists working in the horror field today. His prodigious contributions to literature and entertainment have won him many accolades, including the Milford Award for lifetime achievement in science fiction editing in 1989, and the Ellery Queen Award for lifetime achievement in mystery editing in 1995.
The HWA Annual Conference will be held this year between June 3rd and June 6th at the Manhattan Park Central Hotel in New York City, with the Bram Stoker Awards Banquet taking place on the evening of June 5th. Both the conference and the banquet are open to the public, though tickets must be purchased in advance.
More information on the awards and the banquet can be found by visiting www.horror.org.
