Pokemon has joined the ranks of anime and other fictional series to have their own gods that created their universe. and boy am I loving the parents and religious over-seers outrage LoL. they only seem to care when this happens in things which are very currently popular and up front about it, ignoring that ALOt of things have their own gods, like Marvel comics.

right behind the likes of Tenchi Muyo,Digimon, and others as far as anime goes. gods in anime is fairly common, coming from a culture that has traditional mixed many dieties and simular beings together. In reality what we are translating as "gods" would better be called Poke-kami *pokemon means Poket-monsters so its a joke on my part to say pokekami*

Of course those of us who stopped playing back in Red and Blue days when it first came out, only knew pokemon as a world with normal animals and the occasional monsters called pokemon, it changed for the next generation that ALL creatures in their world aside from the never seen chickens and small sushi fish and even many plants are instead pokemon.

in those days they had "legendary" pokemon which were god like, like Rayquaza and Ho-oh.

but now they have gone beyond super-powered monsters controlling elemental aspects of nature to outright gods.

    even a creator-god: Arceus
one over time and another over space: Polka and Dialga.

I didn't find this particularly odd at all. In fact I'm surprised there is not more outrage at such a thing. But to get mad at this now would be like the outrage first ignited when the Harry Potter books came out. It's witchcraft, in a way.

I gave up after Red and Blue.

They just keep adding hundreds more, and the bastards expect me to remember something like 500 imaginary pointless little creatures. I don't have time for that. I'm an adult, dammit!

so this was moved from religion section to society section? wouldn't have Arts & Entertainment have made more sense if not staying in religion seeing as pertains to a videogame and anime series.

In fact seeing the commercials for the latest pokemon movie set off this, that and I watched the whole thing on youtube out of curiosity, Pokemon: Arceus and the Jewel of Life.

you know for a creator god that Arceus thing sure was piss-weak, yeah it could manipulate reality and all, but a meteor about took it out. A meteor wouldn't phase creators from any other ficitonal series, a meteor against Eternity and Infinity from Marvel? or against the Lord of Nightmares from Slayers? or Azathoth from HP Lovecraft? hell those guys wouldn't even notice one.

I also missed one. Looking into its like some weird sigil.

Arceus at the middle, creating the poke-verse, which is balanced by a negative world ruled by an evil centepede looking thing called Garatini, and two more orbs one for space and the other for time, which would be the pink Palkia, and that alien horse thing Dialga.

At this point I wouldn't be surprised if they changed the back story to be humans ended up there thousands of years ago by accident, space colonists traveling across dimensions and after thousands of years forgot they weren't from the same world as the pokemon.

I stopped playing at Gold & Silver, too much too keep track of. But occasionally weird stuff like this makes you look back, and damn after 10 years or so the style alone has changed a ton. They mostly look like robots now, really weird and shapes that shouldn't be able to move. and this Arceus thing is absolutly hideous in design.

That's only the ones that act as deities. The normies and legendaries are still somewhat alive-looking.

Nope. Mew was just a legendary being that was replicated as Mewtwo.

I don't think Pokemon's popular enough anymore stateside to garner the hilarious outrage this could potentially have generated a few years back.

Mew is supposed to be like, the basic DNA or whatever for all Pokémon, thus why it was created to look like a fetus and travel around in a bubble.

It was top dog, until all these other weird creatures came around. I like to stick to remembering the first 151, and leave it at that. =)

Mew was mostly an HM slave for most players. TBH, Mewtwo was better in actual matches.

    ditto,

I remember in Red that Mewtwo originally was said to have been a mutated ofspring of Mew, but that was quickly retconned to mutated clone.

I always thought that someday they would make it so that some special condition would allow Mew to evolve into Mewtwo, and then perhaps a third form. But I think the design staff changed to some new people before that could happen. We went from the smoother designs to more geometric ones. I think the games/anime are trying to garner older audiences than before or something.

Ahhh..i see.I still think mew is special.what other pokemon can be like mew?I mean, mew shares feelings of
people and pokemon, and she shares the tree of life.I believe that she must be one of the first pokemon
ever made,to go on making other pokemon. You know?
I think she looks like a kangaroo mouse that can mew like a kitty.they will never stop making pokemon.
Once you THINK you have them all...or know anything.they bring out more, and more! There is NO end!

man memories with this post. I cheated like crazy back when I played. I owned a Gamboy and Gamboy color and had a link cable, that's right I traded with myself to get all the Pokemon, and played through the games multiple times to get those TMs multiple times.

and then came Gameshark and with it my Mew, and Celebi. My Mew knew, well the game still exists so I could say knows, Hyperbeam, Blizzard, Thunder, and Psychic. and with the Everstones I ended up being able to keep one of every pokemon, I was crazy back in those days with Pokemon.

That's right I had seven Mewtwos, maybe Eight of them. If I still played I would be one of those disturbing older guys with the team of all Mewtwos. LoL.

No matter how many Pokemon they make nothing will compare to the sheer awesomeness that was Mew and Mewtwo.

What's funny is the opening of that Arceus movie, "hundred, more likely thousands of different kinds" in reference to all the pokemon out there. and with that Legendaries will be less and less special. Each game has at least four, and with the twin game set-up they do each new land has five new ones, or even six new ones since doing the third game per land deal, and the hidden one so seven per ara.

Red-Blue: Zapdos, Articuno, Moltress, Mewtwo, Mew
    Yellow is here.

Gold-Silver-Crystal: Raikou, Suicune, Entei, Lugia, Ho-Oh, Celebi

    Ruby-Sapphire: Groudon, Kyogre, Rayquaza, Deoxy,
and those regi ones like Registeel.
heh, turns out the last game I bought was Ruby but not Sapphire, guess Ruby is where I decided to stop.

and from what I gather the new games added on Palkia, Dialga, Darkrai, Cereiul...Okay no clue on the name it some rubber duck looking thing that brings good dreams, Arceus, and there are some new robot looking ones whose names I don't know.

fun note, of all the Legendary ones, Raikou is still the only one not to be in a movie where its not just seen in the opening or a main series episode. I understand they did these OVA type ones using other characters like a test of not using Ash and friends that had an espiode with Raikou in it.

you know I think I just like the cat-monster legendaries and bird like ones. Guess I got the impression early on that the best pokemon were going to either be cat like or bird like or cute. These newer more dragon or mechanical looking ones just seem off, but that could be age. After all with YuGiOh and what not it seems mecha-dragons are the thing with the younger kids now.

found a site listing and explaining all the Legendary Pokemon, man I am way out of date on these games, apparently there are a total of 34 legendary pokemon now, with some unique god likes, some have god like members but are also a rare species, while some are just a rare species.

also like I thought the old Pokedex said, the DNA of all pokemon can be traced back to Mew. So if this is still supposed to be true, did the writers forget this? So what about these Pokemon of time, space, negative space, and creation? are they before Mew or after Mew, and if they are after Mew does this make Mew the all-mighty first God of Pokemon.
