Sun, skyscrapers, horns, sirens. All the normal things you hear in a city. It was your average day in New York, New York nothing special, at least that was how it seemed. Cars rolled through the streets, people walked up and down the sidewalks and kids played over in Central Park. There was nothing special about that day, it was just another day...but then came the time that forever would be marked in history as the Dawn of the Demons.
There was an explosion, Central Park erupted into flames and hole ripped open. In the aftermath people were crying and screaming, others were helping, but none of them were noticing what was happening at the hole in the ground. Things began to crawl forth, small at first, no bigger than a rat, but then the things crawling out were bigger, and bigger. The largest of them nearly twice the size of a Kodiak bear.
The demons began to rampage through everything. Ripping people apart, causing the death and destruction to spread. That was when all across the world reports began to flood the airwaves and the TV's. It was happening everywhere. Explosions had ruptured in major cities, and demons began to pour out. Military personnel were having difficulty stopping them, bullets seemed to go straight through them, nothing seemed to work. It looked like the Apocalypse had come, and humanity was to weak in the face of it to stop it from happening.
It was then that a man came on the radio, with someone else with him. Both were talking loudly and quickly. There was a way to kill the demons. It seemed that the demons were incorpreal until they got close to someone, then they were solid enough to kill them. People began to mass in junkyards and blacksmith and welding shops and create weapons, those a little more prepared dug into personal collections and began to sharpen blades. The military went as far as mass producing crude swords and axes for personnel. Slowly a resistance formed, but the demons kept coming, it seemed that for every demon killed three more appeared to take its place. Even though the demons kept coming and advancing Humanity kept a resistance.
Six months later, the demons have taken over, but across the world small pockets of Humanity survive, living underground, literally. Some of these groups are led by what's left of the military, but most are led by someone that a group voted as the 'leader'. There is no interconnection between the groups, no central cooridnation. Humanity has been reduced to its basic elements of survival, staying in small groups, claiming territory, and working only for the group of people they belonged too. No person is without a job in each group, even the children help with small chores such as cleaning, sewing and washing. The adults usually work at gathering supplies, hunting, and anything else that involves going outside in the demon territory. Some groups, being more savage than others conduct raids on other groups, slaughtering the men, and enslaving the women and children, other groups have gone as far as bonding and turning several small ones into one large group.
So far there are three large groups in the United States. One is found in Mammoth caves of Kentucky, another at the Hoover Dam in Nevada, and one final one in the Timpanogos Cave in Utah. These three groups also hold what is left of the former government of the United States of America. Currently the group at the Hoover Dam which holds the President, Vice-President, and some of the other higher government officials, is working on trying to reach out to the other groups, and coordinate a plan of attack to merge together and hopefully begin to take back the world for humanity, and eliminate the demons.

Xander woke to the sun starting to peak up over the tree line, day was starting to break. Sighing heavily he got up and began gathering his supplies. Traveling in the day wasn't bad, but traveling in the day, while in the desert of Nevada was. Well at least the demons didn't bother with the day much, they preferred the dark, but that still didn't stop them. If they wanted your hide enough they came out in the day.
Xander checked his blades, and his other weapons, they were in good condition, and easily within reach to use. that was the only way to kill a demon. They were incorpreal until they got up close and personal so they could rip you apart with their teeth and claws. Basically guns were useless unless you you blasted one in the face with a shotgun at point blank range. So the best way was to cut their heads off with a sword, axe, or any sharp object. Being Xander was a highly trained Martial arts master he was good with a blade. Sighing once more he looked to the east to see the sun over the trees now, he needed to get moving, the Nevada cave group was about half a day away.
A few hours later as he was walking past an odd looking dune Xander got a chill up his spine. The odd dune next to him exploded into a blinding wave of sand and something ripped past him, sharp claws glanced acrossed his back, the pain shot through him like a hot knife through butter. He dropped into a crouch barely dodging the second strike that would have taken his head off. He drew one of his katanas and lashed to his right, and hit something solid. A howl peirced through the air, inhuman, and not like any animal ever heard. He tucked and rolled to his right and slashed upwards, seeing the demon finally and splicing open its mid-section. A grin cracked across his face. Two hits in rapid succesion, it was Karvi demon, all blades, brawn and no brains. He jumped into the air and cut out, easily severing the head from it's shoulders.
The sand settled, and the demon's body lay in the sand, the dark black blood oosing out and turning the sand into glass. He sheathed his blade and looked up towards the sun. He should be there in about fifteen minutes. He made his way eastward, towards the radio signal he had been following. Only having a reciever he couldn't reply, but he could follow it and hope the group was honest about looking for anyone willing to help them, there was one case in which the group was a death raider, one that had gone as far as attracting people and then killing and eating them. He barely escaped that one. But he had a good feeling about this one. He could see the mountain range getting closer, another ten minutes at most. He was hurt, losing blood. Not fast but enough to slow him down. He was trying to force himself to keep moving.
Later he made his way to the range, and found the cave entrance the radio signal had mentioned, he entered with one of his kama drawn, and hollored down the hole.
"HELLOO? ANYONE THERE? I'M RESPONDING TO YOUR RADIO SIGNAL! ALSO I NEED A DOCTOR, I'VE BEEN HURT!"

Hearing Xander's call, Marc replied. "GET DOWN HERE! I'LL TREAT YOUR WOUNDS!" His travel companions, by now, had died. The demons that came were few in number, but hard enough that their bladed weapons had no effect. Marc's fighting technique was beyond peer among Americans, but even so, he couldn't save them. He was just burying them as he heard the man shout, realizing he responded to the signal he sent out hoping to save them. How am I going to explain being the only survivor surrounded by five dead men? I hope he believes me...

Nicolette Stood on the precipice of the third floor window she tried many times to talk to the other groups stationed across new york but they seemed to have left the city. She was running low on medical supplies again the injured and ill people in her group were not improving in the least. The elderly and young weren't strong enough or fast enough to move. So she had to go it alone she brought back what she could, Dodging the shadows when she could, Fighting off demons when she had to. She had made it back just before sunset. She had made it to the security office and turned on the wide ban radio and began to call out for help once more.
Buzz buzz: " Hello... Hello.. Is there anyone left out there? I'm in new york city under the Chrysler building. I have sick and wounded elderly and young we are running dangerously low on supplies. If there is anyone out there we need your help." Buzz buzz.
She sat there while it began to get darker outside, before long she would have to make a run for the basement.
She waited for thirty minutes and was just about to turn off the radio.

Xander made his way down the mouth of the cave, and into the first chamber, if he knew the people that hid here wel enough, they would be far back in the cavern. He found the man that had called out to him, and saw the bodies laying around him. Normally Xander would have pulled one of his blades and questioned why the men were dead, but he could tell by their injuries that it had been a demon attack. Perhaps the one he had just killed moments ago.
"I see you had a bit of a demon problem, I'm sorry for your friends. I'm Xander. There's supposed to be a colony here, have you seen anyone?"
It was at this point the portable wide-ban radion he carried went off....

Xander reached behind himself and pulled out the radio...Damn his transmitter had been damaged by the demon, until he fixed it all he would be able to do was receive messages...
"Well so much for that..."

Nicolette was about to turn off the radio when she heard muffled movement in the hall way. She pushed the radio's out button and walked slowly to the door frame. She peaked around the edge and found a huge slobbering beast with half a child's carcass hanging from it's huge gaping maul. The lifeless form dangled uselessly with a icepick held firmly in deaths final embrace. The beasts teeth were yellow with red only on the right side of it's face and mouth. The child had struggled and maimed both of the creatures eyes. It was blinded.. What was it doing inside, And then she recognized the little lifeless face locked in an agonized scream for all eternity. Sarah...
What had happened while she was gone, how had this happened, who else had died, was there anyone left? She looked down the hall to find the other half of Sarah keeping the elevator doors open. She swallowed sour bile as she went slowly and silently back inside the room and closed the door too as quietly as possible. She walked over to the radio turned it down and said. Buzz buzz "If anyone can hear me. I may have been wrong about the previous statement. I may be all that's left out of my group. If this is the case I will be leaving here soon.I am heading south to placed that are sunny almost all the time. I may be safer there. "Buzz buzz.
She turned off the radio and went to the door again the sound of grunting and groaning could be heard as the beast gnawed on the remains of the girl. She snuck as quietly as possible around the beast , but when she got to the elevator and saw the legs of poor Sarah up close she couldn't help but retch the beast may have been blinded but it heard her just fine . It turned towards her and began to scramble on the hard tiled floor it's claws had no traction and slipped and clattered and confused the beast. She kicked the remains of sarah out into the hall way and pushed the close button for the elevator doors.
She pushed the button for the basement and when it cam to a halt the doors only opened partially and what she could see there was carnage and chaos. All of the people she had cared for over the past few months had died brutally. She pushed the door close button when she heard something big moving around in the room beyond and they closed tightly. She rode the elevator to the ground level floor and pressed the emergency stop button and waited her watch worked so she knew what time would be safest to leave the elevator. Then she would get out of here.

"Sit down and I'll treat your injuries." Xander did as he was told, and Marc went about cleaning and dressing the man's wounds. "I suggest we head to New York anyway. I want to know what caused this in the first place, and the answers are likely there." He pulled out a book once done taking care of Xander's injuries, and handed it to him. "Take a good look at this. It details every type of demon I've ever encountered, including anatomical drawings and autopsies where I was able to perform them. Every type of demon in this area is documented, as far as I can tell, including the ones that got my temporary companions. We should rest for now, since it's unlikely that any more demons will come by."

Xander nodded and looked through the book. He had been doing the same, so far he had been wandering the country and to head back to New York would mean backtracking... He pulled open his pack and pulled out a large three-ring binder and handed it to the young man.
"I've been doing the same, I left New York about a five months ago and have encountered alot of demons, some I killed, others I had to bypass. Like this one..."
Xander opened the binder to the first page and showed an extremely detailed drawing a a demon with measurements and other descriptions. The page was titled "Titan"
The demon was about fifteen feet tall and it's hide was dense. Even if it had been susceptible to being shot at it would have done no good, Xander had broken one of his knives trying to disect the dead one he had found. The picture had the creatures head circled with a line leading to two words 'Weak Point'. Of all the skin covering the demon the only place that was vulnerable was it's face, which wasn't covered in the heavy and thick hide.
"That's the biggest I've encountered, but by far not the smartest. The smartest ones actually look similar to us except grotesque mutations, and horns on the head. The Male ones are smart and blood-thirsty, but the females are worse, they capture the male victims, rape them, and then use their bodies to feed the offspring they produce. Their like 'Queens' in a way, but I think there is a more powerful demon leading all of them. Also I've noted they all have a 'Hive-mind' like communication."
Xander let the man look over the binder, and pulled a couple of small bags of jerky out of his bag. He handed one to the man and opened and began to eat one himself.
"If you honestly think we should head to New York, we're going to want to find the colony here, I'm low on supplies and need to barter for some. We won't make it a week without supplies, no matter how strong you are. It's bad out there between here and Illinoise. The Plains are a damn demon army staging ground. Their all forming in the center mostly, Possibly preparing to strike out and sweep for the colonies. Part of my mission has been to warn others of what I've seen, and I need to tell these peple here."
Xander ate more of the jerkey and took a swig of water from his canteen.
"Our best bet is to go in, find the colony, spend the night, and after gathering supplies, head out in the morning."

"We think plenty alike, except that I actually killed all the demons listed in my book. You'll find a tally by the name of each demon. It's a good thing I was a medical examiner way back when, since their systems are often similar to either ours or those of animals. I'm actually rather well-stocked on food and portable water filters. It pays to invest in dried beans, rice, and a pot, my friend, but vegetarianism has that benefit, I suppose. I have enough for both of us to get most of the way to New York, but you should stock up as well. The enemy 'hive', including the keeper, is clearly intelligent. They know that to efficiently defeat a foe, you fan out from a central point. They can expand in any direction with near-impunity, given how scattered we humans are. I'm betting that whatever brought them here can send them back, thus my desire to return to New York. I was upstate when all this happened, and was forced to flee then." Marc pounded his fist into his palm, the gauntlets groaning with his strength. "I won't flee again."
