Baku are these spirits in Japanese folklore that devour your nightmares.

I've always found them to be pretty interesting.
Then again, mythological creatures from most cultures interest me.

They're friendly demons! They just destroy your nightmares. Apparently they can be invoked to help you somehow, if you call out to a Baku in some way to come devour your bad dreams.

I wonder if any other mythologies exist about spirits/demons/entities who help get rid of your nightmares.

Yes! Same here. We need to track some down or summon them or something.

When the Western world hears the word "demon", they automatically think of an evil enitity.
The word "demon" means "replete with wisdom"; good demons were once called eudemons and evil ones were called cacodemons. The word demon derived from the Greek term daimon, which means "divine power", "fate" or "god". Daimones were intermediary spirits between man and the gods and many Greek heros were called daimones. A good daimon acted as a sort of guardian spirit and it was considered lucky to have one around. A guardian daimon whispered good advice and ideas. Evil ones would lead you astray. Socrates claimed he had a daimon his entire life. The voice of his daimon warned him of danger and bad ideas but never told him what to do about them.

I can certainly offer them plenty to eat.
