She looked up to see a dim, pale reflection of herself staring back at her. She looked thin and haggard. As though she had seen little to no sleep, and half that much of food. She pulled her tangled mass of long auburn locks back off of her face and began her morning ritual of getting ready for her part time job as a waitress.
She put on her make up, and work clothes, next she worked a brush through her tangled hair, pulled it back and up into a pretty loose, and curly bun. Then grabbed her apron on the way out the door, on her way to the bus stop just a few blocks away. She took this trip every day, but today, since it was still very early for her to be on her way to work, seemed different some how. She sighed and walked as she did every morning in thought, she never even noticed them man she was about to bump in to, until she had.
"Oh, I'm sorry, excuse me please. I should have been paying better attention......." The apology trailed off when the strangers azure eye's met her own. This was the man from one of her recent dreams. How could this be? But here he was and just as beautiful as she had remembered him. His long lean frame, covered cleverly by a nice work suit. The lines of his body complimented by the solid lines, and fit of the dark Grey suit he wore. His short styled, salt and pepper hair shone in the dim street lamp light, His thick lips and pale skin stretched over high cheek bones. She blushed after she realized she had been staring for far too long.
" I'm quite alright miss. After all it was only an accident."
He flashed a brilliant smile at her and walked away before she could say another word. She turned in time to see him disappear around the corner.
She shook her head as the bus pulled up along side her and she got on it in a daze. She paid the fair and took a seat half way along the bus. She looked out the window just in time to see the man she had bumped into reappear and wave smiling at her. She waved back confused and still dazed.
When the bus came to the stop just across the street from her job she got off and decided that the mornings events had been nothing more than a sleep deprived hallucination. She smiled at the people who greeted her on her way through the door.
"You're here awfully early, Lilly. Can I get you anything while you wait for your shift?" Donald one of her managers asked.
"Thanks, Don, can I get a cup of coffee and some cream please? I really need to wake up." She rubbed the back of her hand across her Grey eye's, and smiled a little. Donald chuckled a bit and brought her what she had asked for.
Lilly made her coffee as she liked it, and drank it slowly. She got up, and almost fell over. " Hey! Lilly are you alright??? You don't look so hot." Donald said shaking his head and helping Lilly back to her chair. Lilly chuckled weakly and shook her head slightly to clear it. "I'll be alright. Actually I haven't been getting very much sleep lately."
She laughed nervously. "But I really can't afford to miss any work this week. Bills are coming up next week and if I don't make rent , I'll be out on my ears." She shook her head again and sighed. Donald looked at her schedule and sighed." I could offer you an open slot, or two on second shift if you need more time to rest. Or you could trade there have been a few girls asking for a first shift slot this week. "
He rubbed the back of his head and shrugged. "Those are the only options I could give you. So you won't miss rent." He smiled and looked at her with a worried expression on his face. She smiled and agreed to the second shift trading and Donald began to make the calls. He got off the phone and told her. " You can go home now I've got some one to trade with you for today." She simply nodded and paid for her coffee and left for home again.
She got on the bus and went home she watched for the stranger but never saw him, until she began to sleep. Her dreams were less troubled the man made it seem less frightening and her caressed her hands and kissed her finger tips. This dream was erotic, she thought it a very nice change and rested quite well because of it.
She woke to the alarm this time and got up and got herself ready for second shift. She smiled as she walked to the bus stop. She felt refreshed and more alive. She got to work and Donald even noticed how much better she seemed to be doing. "Feeling better?" he boomed as she came through the door. She smiled and laughed in return.
She worked and had no problems for the rest of the day. Andrew took over for Donald when she had come in and he waved good bye to her when her shift was through. She walked across the street, and sat on the bench, to wait for the bus. It pulled up and she got on paid the fare and went to sit in the middle of the bus, as was her habit. She sat down and put her bags on the floor under her seat. The bus hit a few stops before going on towards her home.
The man from the morning got on and sat down beside her. Neither of them said a thing, they both rode the bus in silence. When it cam time for Lilly to get off the bus though, so did the stranger. He got up, and smiled to her, letting her get up, and off the bus before him. She smiled back at him out of courtesy. She walked on to her apartment building alone.
She got to the elevator and got on pushing the number for her floor. As the door was closing, a hand stopped the doors just before they got completely closed. It was the stranger she had bumped into and dreamed about that very same morning. He smiled and let out a deep, velvety chuckle. She smiled at him again. He noticed the number of the highlighted button she had pushed earlier. "Seems like we are going to be neighbors." He said as he pushed the close door button. She looked at him her mouth a gape and let out a short sharp breath. " Oh? Really?" Was all she said, when she found the composer enough to do so.
He smiled a brilliant smile and shook his head yes. "I'm in 3B." Again she was shocked the apartment he said he resided in was the one directly across the hall from her own. She smiled and looked away so he wouldn't notice her blushing.
She walked out of the elevator first and down the hall towards her apartment. He hair she let out of it's binding, Her Green eyes searched everywhere he wasn't she took the time to examine every detail of the hall way. "Well good evening." She said quietly as she unlocked her door and left the hall way as quickly as she was able with out seeming to be rude. Her living room had a hand me down couch and an old recliner. She sat down on the recliner and turned on the tiny t.v. set that sat on a t.v. dinner trey. She smiled as the familiar sounds of Drew carry came on and she went to her small kitchen to make herself a microwave dinner of meat loaf and mashed potatoes.
Noble Stood there in the hall way with the slightly peeling flowered wall paper staring after her. She intrigued him for some reason. He took out the set of key's to the apartment he had purchased the day before and unlocked his own door and entered a sparsely furnished room. There was a couch, with holes in it and an old arm chair. So he went to the couch and sat his large lean frame upon it. As he did it creaked and moaned under his weight. He laid there in the quiet of his own apartment listening to the sounds of her humming and watching t.v. and eating her heart beat was so erratic when she was around him. He enjoyed the heat from her body when she felt embarrassed.
He wanted her, a human, a counter to the cold, dark, friendless world he had known up until now. She would make his life worth living again. He smiled and chuckled as he listened to her moving around her apartment.
(Sorry This is All I have for now...)
