what(in your oppinion) classifies someone as an "otherkin"? is it some physical form, a state of mind, or just an endearing fasination?
DragonKing9
wouldn't an otherkin be one that is one of the more major kins?
Rhuen
not human basically, but still a sentient being.

Physical not spiritual.

In other words something that is a physical sentient entity that is not human.

some who like the HLV culture have taken it and altered it for themselves, but its not accurate in that regard.

for instance a Draconian would be an "Otherkin" but a Hydra would not.

but as there is no section just for those none-sentient monsters they are included in this forum as well.

Also lets not forget the "Looking for something specific" search link. (As some member forums are making new threads that reflect older ones already here)."

Otherkin are a mixture of races of beings older than the human race, that are most often thought of as the spirit of a none human in a human body.
There are limitations however since a Dragons essence is too big to fit in a human body, the largest Kin are Griffins and Phoenix. That is not to say that Dragons are not otherkin, they just don't do being human.
Most Draconics are either Drakes, Salamanders, or as with a great many internet OtherKin just roleplaying.
Some of the signs of being otherkin are past life memories, psychic abilities and unexplainable knowledge of certain things.
Phantom limbs (usually wings) or feeling like the body doesn't fit and in the case of Phoenix a constant smell of burning are also common.
One big sign to other Otherkin is an unexplainable sparkle about a person usually in the eye.

I've always been under the impression that otherkin were basically dead species (like perhaps the fae) reincarnated into human bodies.

Personally, I don't have any idea what would constitute otherkin.

To tell you the truth most of us otherkin have just taken to other names to stay in hideing.I myself am a wolf being.Believe me those who marvel at us have no idea of the struggles we go through in everyday life. For instance smells are alot stronger than they use to be.

for the sake of my sanity (and not closeing this thread) I will assume you are not claiming to be a supernatural creature and just a "well aware" or hightened senses human.

yes, as far as can be known so to speak.

Two
unique abilities, and a need to detach themselves from most people they'll encounter, with the exception of other otherkin. Its really that with their abilities, or unique structures, they can't find many likelynesses with other humans, and not wanting to suffer from being incredibly alone, associate themselves with mythical beings, as a race. This would allow them to look to that creature for kinship, per se, and dispel some of that pain of being alone, other otherkin do this to each other also, it seems. hence a fascination with the race seems somewhat common. They are those rejected from society to some degree. So to sum it up, to be an otherkin, you need to be different from other/most humans to such a degree that you would consider yourself inhuman, and find kinship in whatever you belief some other creature to be like.

before the internet and this whole (we want to be something more than human inside) bit, Otherkin was and still basically is a Politically correct or nicer all encompassing term for things people wanted to group together but needed a term for them.

demons, and monsters, tend to have negative undertones, and things like

"creatures", supernatural creatures, paranormal beings, ect...either have sub-human undertones imply fictional (fairy tale creaturs) being one such term, or is too long or sciencetific sounding.

so we end up with "other" as in other than demons, monsters, or humans. and "kin" means they are related. kin to demons, monsters, humans, and each other.

so Otherkin.
