Otherwise invisible but partially flaming as in fire in a loose partial outline by which they are seen.. The flame of the fire being the only way they are visible other than by the carnage left behind as they attack.

Is there a name for this creature? Just curious.

Maybe I think Lion in error....dragon?

reminds me of Sehkmet went she went blood thirsty. She became a great cat with a fiery aura.

The oldest male god (whose name is gone from history) had the head of a lion (disputed though by some who believe a cave painting that is older may depict a bird headed god, but the meaning isn't clear as it could be a long nosed human, or a shaman wearing a false bird head).

Lions tend to have an association with fire. Otherthan calling them divine lions I don't know of any specific names.

It was kind of auraish as opposed to a full fire.

Do you have more information about this God, Rhuen? Preferably some pictures.

In thinking it may have just been an invisible lion. I somehow knew that they were "lions". But that was doused with fire either accidentally or on purpose (to be able to see the otherwise invisible in order to kill them). "I" was seemingly getting ready to shoot an arrow at one as they were attacking people in a small village.

I explored possibilities the other day and was considering something like a cherub or more likely and more specific, a Shedu http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shedu which would have more significance for me. I don't know though. This is from an interesting dream which made me a little curious about tie ins.

I believe his name was Dedun or Dedwen or something like that.

and then we have the goddess Sekhmet, who in some stories was made from the fire of Ra's eye.

considering how common they are in anime and other fiction sources you would think a mythical version wouldn't be hard to find, but it is. I found more lions associated with rain and most are hybrid monsters.

some interesting ones

Aker: Egyptian lion god, guarded the gate of the Sun (Ra). Also guarded the gate of the Underworld.
(guess they are either the same gate or right next to each other)

Arensnuphis: another Egyptian god, a companion of Isis. Not much else, apparently a lesser god (although he did have one temple).

Chnubis: lesser Roman god, had the body of a snake with a lion's head.

Imdugud: a sumerian thunder bird with the head of a lion.

Mahes: Lion headed Egyptian god, son of Bast-tet. Also despite his mother's nature he is the god of massacres (as well as healing and protecting the innocent) a bi-polar god.

Menhit: Egyptian lion headed goddess, she who slaughters, a general in the Egyptian god army.

Narasingha: Lion-man, fourth incarnation of Vishnu.

Ningirsu: Rain god, body of an eagle with a lion's head. kind of a reverse griffen.

Pazuzu: Sumerian demon, enemy of Lamashtu, lion head, scorpion body, lord of the wind demons. But is a good guy.

others are already mentioned, or were just feaky monsters like the Chimera.

Thank you Rhuen. I suspect the dream was mostly symbolic now of other things but I also believe that there is often a many-fold "purpose" to things as well.

I did not know of Aker much. I found the wikipedia article (which is in a sad state) and read a little of him http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aker_(god) . I found this article to be a little better: http://touregypt.net/godsofegypt/aker.htm Supposedly a very ancient god. The two lions representing, in part, today and yesterday. It is an interesting read.
