I had my first taste of blood recently (from another vampire) and I found it to be very sweet tasting. It was better than chocolate (an accomplishment from a female point of view), and better than the best wine. In fact, it tasted better than anything I can think of. I was pleasantly surprised. I remember tasting a cut like most other people have and I would have never said my own blood tasted sweet. Maybe salty, perhaps metallic, but never sweet. It was heavenly. I cut myself two nights ago on something and even my own blood was sweet. Obviously, it would be silly to drink my own blood, but I can see how addictive blood can become.

I like a lot red meats, specially almost-raw meat and was into the odd "Me Vamp, Me drink blood" thing about a year or so ago. Blood is good, tastes nice to some people but it's not that good, I prefer both chocolate and wine, they're healthier (nothing is good in large amounts).

That is such a bad idea, avoid cutting yourself, vampire or not I seriously doubt you'll be able to controla massive bleeding, love thyself. :)
Rikkar
To me it has a metallic taste. I cannot identify which metal for I have not tasted many metals. :4:

It is salty but not overpoweringly so.

I only consume it when aroused or thirsting. I eat more chocolate than I drink blood.

Lady Kelly, take care to not fall to autovampirism. That can lead to problems.

runs off to chew on a copper wire so I can tell you if the metallic taste is copper

How dare you suggest that I am male ...*smirks* I am and will always be a lady ... *Tilts head and smiles*

it tastes more like aluminium than copper to me, though I can see how it could be concidered sweet. I see blood play as more of a fetish than a vampiric thing and I dont clame to be a vampire in any sense.
Kelly
That cut was accidental...I will not fall into autovampirism either :)
N.Raducioui
Was that cut truly accidental? Do you have strong cravings for blood? How long have you had the thirst? What do you think prompted the thirst?

:icon5:
The absense of color
Blood is life giving sweet or coppery it depends on the person, though myself i am more of a modern vampire, more into the sense of being than blood lust. though blood is beautiful to watch flow, befrom a cut of anywhere, the color itself is fasinating.

You did not prompt the thirst.
Deotriese
I do not regularly indulge in the biting of metals..so i could not tell you...Actually, i once chewed tinfoil...I got such a sore electric shock from it that i jumped three feet in the air, howling and trying to spit it out while my jaw felt paralysed. Since then, if it shines silver, i dont bite it ;)
The absense of color
now why would you chew on metal anyway...... unless your really a werewolf and likes shiny objects.
Socrates
tastes like iron
Deotriese
I have no idea *smirks*

I chewed on a lot of things when i was younger.
Fallen_Firefly
to me it tastes not salty, perhaps a little sweet but also just the tast you would get if you licked a penny or something, faintly metallic but in a pleasant way. i miss blood for i have not bled in a while and i always like it, though i am definately not a vampire.

hey stop smirking at me, only reasoning hun. llittle ones love to chew on stuff, i know i did too, though i don't remember much, i like to phase my childhood out.

Better than chocolate? Better than wine? Give up on the poetry, kid. Being a vampire isn't "Interview with the Vampire".

Blood's metallic and salty. It has no sweet counterpart. There's no sugar in the blood, only glycogin which IS NOT SUGAR. It's a sugar byproduct, sure, but it does not taste sweet. Bile and hydrochloric acid has destroyed the sweet taste of sugar and created something the body can use as fuel.

If you think glycogin is sweet, you must think fireplace wood or petrolium is sweet too. They're all simply fuels. None of them are designed to taste sweet. Sugar, once broken down to glycogin, no longer has any reason to be sweet. You don't have taste buds in your arteries.

99% of the taste of blood comes from the hemoglobin in the red blood cells. Hemoglobin is a type of iron. This is what gives it its metallic taste. There's traces of copper in blood too, which contribute a sometimes coppery taste. Salt is also present, though some are metallic salts and are actually poisonous to consume.

That's right, it's naturally in your system, but once bile and hydrochloric acid in the stomach react to them they produce poisonous secondaries. Your body naturally produces poisons every time you eat. That's what the liver and kidneys are for, to remove these. Your body doesn't naturally produce much of these poisons during digestion, but if you were to drink a lot of blood and manage to overcome it's emitic properties so as to not throw up, you'd be poisoning yourself with metallic salts (and others I've not gone over).

Better than wine or chocolate? You watch too much TV, read too many books. Try not to believe in them the next time.
Kelly
I actually don't watch TV - no TV service. Let's see - the last vampire books I were read were Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake. I don't remember if there was any emphasis on the "taste of blood."

I, too, eat more chocolate. drink more wine than blood. There aren't too many vampires out there who consume large quantites of blood. I only personally know of one who can drink more than a few tablespoons without becoming ill. Still, I bet his chocolate intake is higher than his blood intake.

I was relating my experience, like it or not Mr. Smarty-Pants. And I'm probably older than you are :)
Creature Feature
I didn't say anything closely resembling something like "you eat more chocolate/drink more wine than you drink blood". Read my post a little closer next time. I said nothing about amounts of chocolate or wine, or blood for that matter. What I said was a doubt that you find the taste of blood better than either of those two substances. It sounded more like something out of a book than a real emotion filled statement.

Also, I fail to see where age enters into this, but if you really must, I'm willing to reveal my age if that's what you want. You first, because we all know that creature_feature is a five thousand year old ancient god immortal vampire. In the mafia, no less.
Kelly
The "I, too" part was in reference to previous posts. You got confused, huh?

Mafia vampire? Oh, no. Emul made you? biggrin.gif I will have to do a search on Mafia vampires. I'm sure there are references all over the net....

Age? Oh, you called me kid. I'm 48.

And I thought I had PMS.

Which post are you referencing, since as far as I can tell the only people who talked about chocolate consumption before you was me. Before that it was you again.

Creature_feature why do you have to terrorize everyone on the forum? How the hell do you know she did not really mean it as an "emotion filled statement?" So what, you disagree. It does NOT change the fact that she likes blood as much as she does. Go dissect some other forum with your bias “only I can be right” crap.

KrypticFear13
we all have cravings, whether it be wine, blood, chocolate, or what ever. it's a need, does it really matter if someone says they crave the taste of blood over chocolate?. that is for them, obviously not everyone. if thats what the person craves, who are we to say " no it's not,or hard to believe". unless you live within that person and know what they think or feel, you have no right to dispute what they feel is right for them, or what their cravings might be

I still do not believe you Creature. I have proof that you are 4999, remember?

You are not a God either. Pppppffffffffffttttttt you are but a normal, average, every day 4999 year old vampire with Super Duper Vampire Powerz™.

So there, Creature.... busted!
entropy
I could see how the initial taste could be better than chocolate (not a fan of chocolate) but ya gotta admit that the after taste of blood is kind of like ass.

BTW Creature.
ever been to Vancouver? just wondering because I grew up there you know back in the 1980's BCE
passingover
Salty, "copperish" ... or else like water.

No, I don't drink blood. Just answering the question.
Creature Feature
I've been busted by Rikkar! Ok, I am now Five Thousand. I am 4999. But my birthday is later today.

No, entropy, I've never been to Vancouver. I've never been to anywhere in Canada. I have been to Mexico before though.

No apologies necessary, I seem to always get asked it because of my log on name ... Oh well!
The absense of color
controversy...yeah......jumps up and down happily.

I know i'm late but i agree with the facts of consuming more chocolate than blood, if that counts as being blood lust, i'm in, though refering back to modern vampirisms.
Kota Mura
hmm blood well ive only tasted my lady's and mine but so far it taste kinda like iron flakes .....without the crunchness..hehehe unless your the very kinky type or parhaps a vamp desperate for blood..regardless that its dead and old blood......heheh
Kelly
Ahhhh! I reiterate, I do not drink more blood than I eat chocolate. I eat chocolate almost daily, 3-4 oz. If I drank that much blood, I'd be a sick puppy. What I was saying is that the blood tasted better than chocolate or wine to me, an amazing thing.

I didn't notice the metallic or salty taste that I had experienced in previous years. Maybe my tastebuds have changed or maybe it was just the particular blood. I was surprised.

Yep...metallic...it ought to taste of Iron really as that's the main metalic element in blood.

It can taste sweet if you have a very high blood sugar level...if you do..you should probably be worried as it could be an insulin problem..
N.Raducioui
Everyone's blood tastes different to me. The taste is metallic for the most part, but there is always a complex aftertaste that is like a personal signature. The lady's (K) blood is extremely sweet. I might agree with you about the high blood sugar.
VXTip
only blood ive tasted has been my own, it was sub par as far as liquids go, definitly has the usual copper/iron taste, it didnt taste great but it wasnt particularly bad...hmm ,it was like tasting purgatory!
Creature Feature
Hate to tell you this guys, but there's no sugar in blood. There's glycogin and glucose. Neither are sweet.
Kelly
You are partly right, Creature. Glycogen would taste like starch if we could taste it. Glycogen is stored in the liver and in the muscles.

Glucose, however, is a simple sugar and is very sweet. Type II Diabetics are known to have "sweet" urine because of the overabundance of glucose in their blood and urine. Glucose Tolerance Tests measure the amount of glucose in a person's blood. I can't say if it would make the person's blood taste sweeter or not, but if glucose is elevated a great deal, the blood probably would be sweeter. To say one has "sugar," is a layman's term, but it's also accurate.
Creature Feature
Glucose isn't particularly sweet. It may be a little, not particularly though. It's less sweet than sugar is.

In order for someone to have so much glucose in their blood that it would be sweet, they'd need to be in a diabetic coma. Even then I wouldn't say it would taste all that sweet.

It'd kill someone to have enough glucose in their blood that you could taste it.
Kelly
I had to drink a glucose solution for a diabetes test a few years ago. It was glucose flavored with a little bit of orange essence. It was extremely sweet.

Dextrose, the common cane sugar, is a form of glucose.

This certainly doesn't mean that all forms of glucose, in all stages, taste sweet.
Creature Feature
I've had to do the same test and my drink wasn't sweet. It was the same orange flavored shit. You could possibly be right, I may have just had a bad bottle. Or maybe my taste buds just suck.
The absense of color
every one has their own chemical make up, so there should be a different taste to everyone's blood a personal signiture of the bloody type.

except that everyone's blood contains haemoglobin which carries the same element iron. iron is iron. the only way it could really vary is by the composition of the blood plasma, ie. what sugars salts and ions it is carrying and in what quantities, and even then it would vary within the person.hmmm, tis puzzling.

Maybe they gave you someone's 'sample' by accident..

Glucose is very sweet..I used to take glucose tablets (pure unflavoured) before sparring...so that I could get some sugar high fusion power....

My first taste of the sweet life nectar will echo in my thoughts for all eternity the donor was a past love, He grabbed me from behind spun me around and made a small cut on my pail breasts. As he drew the blood from me a unexplainable feeling swept over me. My body shook and heart raced, he took the blade held it to his lower lip made a small slit and blood flowed down his soft lips. The taste of his blood made me feel more alive than any drug. It was sweet and warm, a feeling that will not soon be forgot.
