speaking in terms of the fantasy, nonhuman, mythical, etc.. vampires, can they get aids?

im not sure cuz
1 they cant get human diseases...can they?
2 the thing for hiv is called HUMAN immuneosomething virus
3 they dont have an immune system
4. they wouldnt get it from just drinking blood, unless they had cuts in their mouth, etc, that they teach you in health class

i was just wondering about other ppl's thoughts on this...

although, even if a vampire got aids/hiv, they wouldnt get any of the sicknesses that it makes you susceptible to, and also couldnt die from them even if they got the diseases, so it wouldnt really matter anyway...huh, i think i answered my own questions...ill post this anyway, haha

Hmm, classical vampires and AIDS... Well, if they are the undead, then they can't manifest AIDS. The HIV virus can only survive in certain conditions, there is a fairly narrow range of pH, oxygen, temperature, etc that HIV can survive in, and any creature that is significantly inhuman would be totally inhospitable to the retrovirus. So, if there's no body heat, or if the blood is not maintained at a certain oxygenation and acidity/alkalinity..... Basically, the only way a classical vampire would be able to sustain the HIV virus for more than a minute would be if that vampire was pretty much identical to a human.
I'm not ruling that possibility out, because I am not going to claim to be a subject-matter expert on the blood alkalinity of the undead nightwalker. But I do know a little about AIDS. We covered it in my invasive procedures class on Friday.

I highly doubt a supernatural vampire could get AIDS, they are immortal after all. The virus might be able to lay dormant but as mentioned above the virus has a short lifespan when outside the human body.
Human vampires (HLV) can indeed get the virus because of course they are human. Even though the stomach acids in the human body can kill the virus if there is a cut in a persons mouth or if a person has a stomach ulcer (tear in the lining of the stomach) they can become infected.

Regarding HIV in the stomach acids, I would like to point out that you are right, the human digestive tract would kill the retrovirus. But the mouth, mucus membranes, the pharynx, the esophagus, all provide opportunities for infection. Nobody should take chances like that, hoping that HIV is too fragile to be dangerous when ingested. Body substance isolation is a way of life when you talk about infectious diseases or the possibility of contaminated body fluids.
Now then, I don't see any reason to believe that a HLV would be immune to this scourge of the modern world, but as I said, the only possible way that a supernatural undead monster could suffer AIDS was if it's system was more or less identical to ours. Or, maybe just close enough to ours that it could harbor the virus, spread it to future victims?

Agreed one hundred percent! AIDS is a terminal disease and it is best to try and avoid all possible risks that can cause infection.
Drinking blood can be dangerous and if someone chooses to drink blood it should be from a donor who has been tested for HIV and other diseases such as hepatitis.

To catch a retrovirus one would have to be of the proper genetic makeup for the retrovirus to act. An immortal would come nowhere near this.
