I've noticed something lately.

This site is full of vampires, at least self proclaimed vampires. For the most part, everyone here is from an English speaking country OR knows how to speak English.

Then why is it so common to have people here named things like "Lestat" and "Locane"? I'm not talking about their internet name; a few people here really try to make others believe their names are things like this!

Why are there no vampires named "Bob" or "Jim" or "Sally"? You'd think that vampires named this would be incredibly common. Of course, now that I think about it, the moment I hit POST NEW TOPIC, the only responses I am going to get are people saying "Nuh uh, I have a normal name!" and the entire point of this post will be lost on them.

I suppose my real, underlying point that you would have had to have thought about to figure out if I had not told you is "Why do so many of you feel the need to "darken" it up, to make it "more badass"? Everything from the name to the outlandish claims... what's the point in faking it?" Does it make you more respected at lunchtime to say these things on the internet, if they are not true in your real life? Has it ever saved you from getting beat up? What's the point?

~kicks back in her black velvet chair and grins~

Yeppers ... that is me ... badass Livvie B) What .... oh... that's right ... I didn't pick a badass name... ~giggles~

I think may people choose to "darken up" as that is how they see ... or want to see themselves. This is after all ... how most people see vampires. Not that it is not in some manner the case ... it is certainly not the whole of who and what we are. And let's face it ... the modern media ... in the form of TV, Movies and Novels have sort of made it
"in fashion" to be "dark".
Thorne

Scenario 1: Vampire in question resembles work in fiction.
After outliving their normal span, the vamp would have to change its name, unless it's a complete daft twit. And if you're something cool and powerful and you're going to choose a new name for yourself, it would seem inappropriate to take a name like "ted" or "jody".

Scenario 2: Vampire in question is little more than a blood-drinking human.
Presumably this would operate by two names, one for the vampiric community and one for mortal society. Compartmentalization is the key to sanity, after all. ^_^ And again, if you've got something to prove... I mean, if you want to make a suitable impression, go for an exotic name.

I've got a weird name because I've got weird parents. For gawd's sakes, I was conceived during a game of Twister. *sigh*
Diabolique

Hahahhahaa! Hahahaha!

This is an inside joke guys... a reference to my schizo ex wife. One night, she told me that she believed I was the reincarnated spirit of Vlad the Impaler. Then she told me that she was not really (ex wife's name), that she was Giana of the Star Chamber, a group of elder gods and goddesses who ruled overtop of the normal gods like God, Shiva, and the like.

She actually believes this.

Retort to Scenario 1)

If that holds true, then why do some of our more delusional members who claim to be a couple hundred years old claim that their name is Locaine, Moebius, and the like? It seems that (assuming they're for real, and not just delusional) it's working the other way around, that they're picking older and older names the older they get.

Of course, to validate that arguement, you'd have to disregard the fact that they're full of crap in the first place.

Retort to Scenario 2)

Right, but being simply human but having to choose an overly vampire username in order to prove your vamp-ocity actually makes your identity MORE questionable (at least to some). It's retroactive to their goal.

I'd have more ease accepting that the guy usernamed "I_Like_My_Car" could be a vampire more than "Lestat_Locaine_Super_Vampire_Moebius". The former seems like he's well adjusted and accepts who he is. The latter looks like he is begging us to believe him.

And for god's sake, what in the hell were your parents doing? I mean, besides the obvious. People actually play twister naked??
Elemental Vamp
well my real name is melissa. a -very- common name.
FreeLanceFuc
If I was a vamp I would change my name to Thirsten Fermur!!
Olivia Cainin
"Skippy" ... the idiot vampire" Sorry ... couldn't resist that one. Gonna give him buck tooth fangs and a pocket protector for his cape pocket. Perhaps some cool glasses ... with tape on the nose piece .... ~roflmao~ Now there is a bad ass vampire if I ever saw one!
lonerXX
well....if you couldnt figure oit out yet......my name's Josh.....not really a vamp name...not really a badass name....just a name.......dont really think I'd change it......better than what I was origanally going to be named....guess I have my father toi thank for saving me on that note...heh :D
Dead^soul
Most Vampuyres (classicals + Inherators + Genetics) change their name every 7 years , for that reason they make up a name that the Communcity knows them by...

For example my last name was Steven , and the Commun knows me as Nickolous
Creature Feature
Dead, are you asking me to believe that you changed your name at 12 years of age?

Remember, Dead, "I am super old" statements, or impliations thereof, are not welcome here.
Thorne
you must excuse Dead Soul...hes a 19 yr old still suffering teen angst ... :)
Creature Feature
I'm aware of Dead's personality, system, but thanks for the heads up. Just remember dude, you catch more flies with honey than vinegar; be polite.

Though, an offhand joke every now and then is ok. And that's what yours qualifies as, an offhand joke. No big deal. Just don't be too common with them.

Dead... really... I am becoming a bit impatient with your pushing the envelope. If you find that you must post about being 9 trillion years old or knowing the guys who built the pyramids... well, roleplaying is down the hall. I think that's what you are really looking for.

And if you dont knock off the envelope pushing, I'll see to it that you find it.

As far as my origional intentions, guys, you have to understand something: It's painfully obvious that we have a cadre of some hundreds who have "Look, I'm a Vamp!" names. It's also painfully obvious that none of them are ever going to post here, and I understood that when I created the thread. What I can assure you of is the fact that they most definitely checked this thread out.

Que sera sera.

I especially would like to reply to Feature Creature.
I have to disagree with you because those that come to this site like to share their "hobby" with someone else. That's my case anyway. Those that darken up their nicks in order to be "respected" - not at lunch time but on the site - they don't need it, just do it because they feel like it, and this is what this site is all about (I believe), expressing your thoughts and feelings about vampires and their world. I must conclude by naming you a non-believer and I hope you will prove otherwise. Why else would you have come to this site, if you weren't interested (I hope not to criticise, because the worlds has just to many critics).
Now to everyone else. I like the fact that the persons on this site are all "gothic like", but I would also like to know which of them are real vampires, and which not.
This because I would like to meet a vamp. Don't serve me the old "they don't exist story" because I'm past believing it. All myths contain the truth, and in this case I would say that the fictious part is the number of the vamps worldwide (believed to be large).
My point here is that I love this site, and think that most of the members are O.K.
Hope I didn't bore anyone. ^_^

And remember, The Night comes.
Creature Feature
I am neither a non believer, nor a vampire.

Also, non-believer does not mean non-interested.

Upir Lichy
Bloody hell you get attacked from all angles here dont ya? Now it's our aliases?

I used Upir Lichy cus Upir is our word for Vampire and Lichy is an old slavic word (slavic?) for Wicked. Some Russian prince was onced reffered to as Upir Lichy, I thought it was pretty funny and my ex started calling me it as a sort of pet-name thing (Wicked Vampire), and basically I used it here. Not trying to sound badass or nothing, its just that when I joined, the name I wanted was already in use. And anything sounded better than Nathaniel *yawn*

Just a bit of creativity.

YOu could say that about peoples emails.....why isn't everyones email their name? Cus there would be ten gazillion Bob_Jones@email.com wouldn't there?

Also there are alot of Gothics and some very creative people here who come up with some fucking excellent aliases, and bloody awesome signatures.
Pure Vampyric Evil
Well the close as I will get to a vamp name at this point is Eryc, which is just a sad uncreative attempt to be differant. My user name is so cliche that is it just sad yet I have searched and no one else uses it to my knowledge and it's a referance to music..not much else sticks. Hmm I would consider going by Dietrich which is my middle name and my grandfathers name, yet those who speak to him call him Sam.
Irrialyth
I use Irrialyth....just to have a different name..I think, once you make up a name..you sorta become that person....My real name is Varin...I signed on..like once, using that name here..then I just kinda, didn't use it.
kaleowitch
My last name was Bradhadair, as most people still know me as, but I have changed my name to Kaleo
Khrymzynn
I picked Khrymzynn because Crimson is just done to death, but I like the name. The main character in the novel I'm writing goes by lots of names, all dealing with the color red. But the other vampires call this creature by the name "Crimson". I wanted a name after that character, but I wanted a twist on it.
My real name is Scarlet. The rest of my family is Brick, Cherry, Rusty, Ruby, and Carmine (we call him Red).
And to answer Creature_Feature's questions:
QUOTE

1: What my parents were doing: Apparently, a lot of acid. Lots and lots of acid.
2: Yes, we d- they do. Yes, they do. that's what I meant.
Come on, you've never played Naked Crisco Twister?
Why bother
just because i feel the need to i want to tell you that the word moron is another word for vampire in a different language. i dont remember which one it is though
deadsoul
I'll make this simple. I'm not a vamp, however, I believe. My name is Chris, but sometimes I call yself Sam because it matches my natural cling to destruction. <_<
Meatros
I'm neither a vampire nor a believer, nor blessed with a great name.

So when the opportunity arose and I changed my name to:

Sir Enormitous Maximus Girth in Shafticus,

My friends call me "Thumper" for short...
Amaunet13
Meatros, I swear, you're hilarious...you are awesome.. mellow.gif

As for me, I've adapted and adopted a new name...because my real name is so boring...and, everyone makes fun of it..Mary...yuck...I absolutely hate it...so, now, a lot of people call me something different...Marie, Maria, Marium...but, I've got a lot of nicknames...but, my new name is *Amaunet*...because of it's meaning...it's a lot like my personality...it means "The Hidden One"...and online and at school people know me as this...Amaunet is an Ancient Egyptian deity of the afterlife, and she has qualities of me, so...end result: I am her, and she is me. mellow.gif wub.gif ^_^

that's just great. I was thinking about Ivana Humpalot, but that doesn't compare to Meatros's idea.

about Scenario 1: yeah, that's about right.

Retort to Retort to Scenario 2: but you misunderstand that, generally, those that want to prove their vamp-ocity are not interested in making nice with people that will question them at all. they are interested in "proving" it to those that are gullible.

in other words, it is retroactive to the goal of convincing everyone that they are, in fact, a real vamp, but i often doubt they realize it. people have a way of assuming that those they encounter are fundamentally like them.
