everyone I am new here and wont be here for long, I am in an english class were are studying Vampires. I have read The Interview with the Vampire and Bram Stoker's Dracula, we also watched many movies with different vampires in them, Nosforatus, Van Helsing, Dracula. While I really do not have an opinion on whether they are real or not I would like to know how everyone feels about the question. Is the archetype of the vampire pop culture. I will begin please add anything you would like. I think that in fact they are pop culture. The stories and movies and photos of them change through time to prove things, in the time of the original Bram Stoker's Dracula, Dracula was pretty much into killing anyone, it taught a lesson to society now of course will all of our fantastic movie technologies hollywood can make vampires fly dissapear and do all sorts of things for entertainment now not so much as it used to be.
Thanks for your time I was just thinking since all of you seems to have more experience and knowledge on this subject you could help!

Vlad the Impaler was never supposed to be dracula, just the dracula character was very very very very loosely based on him.

'Dracula was pretty much into killing anyone, it taught a lesson to society'

Go on...

'Vlad the Impaler was never supposed to be dracula, just the dracula character was very very very very loosely based on him.'

Just given the same name, the same history (ish) etc. biggrin.gif I'm joking (before anybody takes this seriously). It's still undecided whether or not Vlad Tepes (yes I am aware that it was a nickname) did drink blood. All we have to go on are rumours pretty much.

There are waaay too many threads with nearly identical topics such as this. Could you please look around before you post a thread like this?

Vlad Tepes and Count Dracula had different histories. And the whole thing about the impaler drinking blood stems from an account that he submerged his head in the blood of his enemies. *takes it all very seriously and storms off in a huff*

I think actually the idea of a vampire as a savage killer seems more real to me than the idea of a vampire as a sophisticated, smooth noble. Or indeed the vampire who is in fact a whiny 13 year old living at home with their parents.

C'thulu; be nice. And you are correct about the rumors about Vlad the Impaler; he was rumored to have bathed his head in the blood of his enemies but is morely known as the "Impaler" for the fact that he planted the heads of his enemies on stakes or when captured alive in battle; forced stakes into the bodies of his enemies and put them up around his property as display pieces/warnings. It is also said that he killed his lover because she lied about being pregnant, he apparantly was a man with great love for the truth.

the word dracul means son of the dragon so dracula was part of his name.

elizabeth bathory also bathed in blood
im not sure Vlad did though
Vlad would impale the bodies of anyone that did not support him
he once had a whole army impaled
rumor has it that one of Vlad's servants complained about the stench so Vlad
impaled him on a stake above the rest of the bodies (kinda gross)

the fact is Cheerios most of us base the story off of rumors and other stories
you can try in other categories like maybe Real Vampires or something but most people ,with the exception of a few, arent that well educated in this subject but you can look for more here its your decision. In my case i read alot of books to know the surface of the subject.
do what you want :icon6:

It stems from several rumours that he dined in front of the impaled criminals, sometimes drinking their blood instead of wine. If you're going to take it seriously, so will I biggrin.gif

The blood/wine thing is new to me (and probably a lie) but I knew he used eat amidst the small forest of impaled corpses.

Do you remember anything more about this? I haven't heard it at all and I'm interested. :)
C'Thulu Dawn
errr he staged mass impalings of defeated enemies, and then he'd eat his food among the dead and dying enemies. I believe it was done after battles, or criminals were saved up for mass execution in this form.

Vlad Tepes was a ruler in my country, in romania. i have learned lots of facts about him and i can surtanley tell you that he is no vampyre and has no conectins to the mityc caracter of Dracula. the year of birth is the same, but all the rest is fiction. it is true that Vlad used to kill the criminals from he`s country by sticking a prick into they`re asses and pushing it out through the neck, paying atention not to touch a vital organ, so that the victim could not die immeadtly but in anguish.he was sadistic but a verry good rooler.
all the othre facts told about him are untrue. just legends. and Vlad Tepes also dies soon after the end of his rule.
i hope no`one belive that Vlad Tepes is Count Dracula...Dracula was invented for the folklore of oure country...
