Full Version: The Boogie Man

Recently I had a swell idea, I'll try to prove that the the Boogie Man could exsist.
But so far all my efforts have been in vain, nobody even beleaves in the Boogie Man anymore. I was merely looking to see where the "story" first began, what inspired the writer to make up such a tale. Every story, myth, or legend has some truth to it, if I could just find some backdrop on the story I might be able to put the puzzle together.
We all beleaved the Boogie Man was out to get us when we were young, what hid in the shadows that we could not see into. If the Boogie Man wasn't real why were we once so afraid, this is what I'm trying to find out.
But if anyone can help me out here it would be a BIG help, anyways I'm going to keep looking around.

Thanks

Thew boogyman was told to children to keep them inside to be safe. Strangly it moved to under the bed so the parents could have some rest without the chilren desturbing them. Other stories of other monsters have been around for ages to keep children safe and learn morals.

I know this, but where did they get the idea for such a creature?

From little vile disgusting minds of something called Homo sapiens.
Emotion
So you don't beleave there is any truth in the tale?
avengealista
i think there probably was a truth behind the story, but then again, it could just have been something really stupidly simple.....

In every story there is some truth, no matter how stupid that story is,

The term boogyman is derived from a creature of British lore called a Bogle or a Boggart.

a small gnome or brownie type creature with the ability to change its form in order to scare people if it is offended. they are also nasty tricksters.

Check out the United Kingdoms regional thread for details.

go to the white letters that read "looking for something particuler" click on them, then click on the link for the Regional threads index, then scroll down to the Link for the United Kingdom and it will take you to that thread, It has some listings for the Bogle and Boggart in it.

Hm, well that does it for me.....Still he could exsist!

who says that bogles are all fake, even today some believe they are real and are responsible for some hauntings and poltergeist activities that are often blamed on ghosts.

a bogle isn't any more out there than a ghost is, most are just more inclined to believe in ghosts than other supernatural beings.
Acheron
Ahh they only change their shape only if you have offended them in some way. Aren't they very sensitive to anything you do? Like if you sweat to much or something like that.

Broken Shadow
there was a real boogey man but not under your bed it was a man named Albert Fish was one of the worlds boogeymans

Perhaps the deadliest and most reviled of modern day serial killers, Albert Fish was a real-life Boogeyman; a non-descript elderly gentlemen who had a taste for human flesh.

The mild-mannered, grandfatherly Fish abducted, murdered, and cannibalized numerous victims during the 1920s and 30s. He taunted the police with letters, and finally got the electric chair in 1936. :icon7: :yikes000:
Antares
I mentioned him in this thread.

Albert Fish (1870-1935) Werewolf, Cannibal, Vampire
Broken Shadow
yea i mean he actually was a real vampire who killed any person who would get in his way.
