mellow.gif Reality check here people.
It is as duncan macleod said in highlander...who wants to live forever.
If we live forever...we live alone. We have to sit back and wait for all the people we love to die.
And when they have died we grow new loves...and then they die.
This cycle continues on forever...until we gradually sink into madness and dispair...and give up all hopes.
If you really live forever...I guarantee you that in a hundred and fifty years...you will be in a nuthouse...where you will remain forever.
sure you will live to see many...many things...but the pain of continuously living will srive you mad.
For those of you who wish for the gift of vampirism and all the "rewards" that come with it...you must ask yourselves are you willing to pay the price.
Before you go into any chat room and ask to be made a vampire look at yourselves and ask yourselves...
ARE YOU WILLING TO PAY THE PRICE!!!!!

Nobody loves me...everyone hates me...guess I'll go eat worms. :P

By most older Vampyres , it is considered to be a curse, it is something that a new Vamp dosnt realise , they dont believe that they ever get sick of it. Personally i still love been a vamp , however there are times when i wish i had someone to spend the endless nights with... But would it be fair to condem another person to what i have suffered ? It is why Vampyres mostly just change Vampires , they allready know what it is like to some degree.
Damious
This thread would be relavant if physical immortality existed.
Dead^soul
here we are just talking about living longer , not Immortal , everything dies..

-_- This topic is very relevant.
I cannot tell you how many times I have come on here and seen people asking to be turned...asking what they could do to be immortal.
And I have seen those that have said that it is a life of ease and comfort.
But if you think about it even humans that live to a ripe old age have to watch everyone they love die.
A very close member of my family died recently at 102 years of age...and even his grandson...is now considered middle age...his siblings had gone on long before him...even his children...all but one have passed on.
So wether or not immortality is real...I am not here to discuss that...I am trying to reach those people who believe that it is...and let them know that before they ask for immortality...of even a very long lifespan...they need to consider the cost...and see if they are ready for such a "gift"
That is why I entitled this as a reality check.

It's a moot point, Nightstalker. It doesn't exist, so there's nothing to warn them against.

Human beings coming to forums.vampires.com and claiming to be any type of a vampire gain no immortality or longevity simply by doing this. Even if you redefine the term vampire to include the "vampires but not anne rice vampires" people, they still do not have either immortality or long life. How would one of these people know they had long life anyways? They're not old yet! It's along the lines of saying "I call myself goth, so I'm going to be rich at age 57." How do they know untill AFTER it has happened?

Don't bother warning them, dude. Let them try to get these "gifts"... when they never get them, you'll have done yourself a service by spending the energy on something more important.
Dead^soul
but what makes you so sure they dont...

Uhh....it doesn't matter...it's not relevant because physical immortality is not real. I'd rather they know for a fact it's not real and be one step closer to reality then live in a fantasy world where they think it's possible at all for them to live forever.

I have deleted several posts in this thread ... if yours is missing ... and you do not have a clue as to why... see me in pmail.

Next ... I have to agree with Creature Feature here.... and Damious as well. Immortality of the body does not exist. And even if it did .... the reasons for not desiring it were made quite clear by Creature Feature.

Funny how the thought of living forever becomes less desireable as one ages. See me in about twenty five years people ... I can guarantee your prespective as to the benefits of immortality will have altered far more than you can imagine at this moment in time. See me in seventy years ... and you will not even be able to remember why you desired such a thing.

And last but not least ... please take one on one conversations to pmail. I do not mind an occasional bit of chatting ... but the locations, ages and gender of others is not a topic that needs to be in the threads.

Man, I'm on an intellectual roll here! Thanks Olivia, for understanding my point. To be fair though, I believe the credit for making the reasons for not wanting such a "benefit" were stated by dead soul, and not I.

Just because it MAY be impossible to physically live forever doesn't mean being a vampire is made any easier. There's a different set of rules and ways of life in some instances and that change is something that you'll have to deal with your entire life. if it's a burden it may feel like death will never come.
I agree a lot of people have no clue when they ask to be "turned"what they are getting into.... But I also think there are people meant to see all they have seen, and live how they live. No matter if you believe or not.
But that's just my thoughts... wouldn't know from experiance

my comment is simple as this, for those that aren't physically immortal it's understood at the lack of belief or acceptance of such a notion. but just because you aren't doesn't mean that such a thing isn't a very real possibility. and for some of us, this is more than just a possibility, but a very cruel and harsh reality that we have to deal with every day. and true no vampyre is 100% immortal in the literal sense of the word, but different breeds do have different lifespans determined by different aging rates. but if one claims to be somewhat immortal, and has lived physically for centuries, no need to get into an arguement or put them down, just because you're not or never have been. after all if they're full of it, then such a verbal claim will not lead them to physical immortality or a longer lifespan than religion would, but on the of chance that they are telling the truth, then they would have more idea of what it's like to have lived for so long, thus again no need to put them down or label them just because they possess, unfortunately something that you may not. afterall it 's not like you're actually planning on making it your life's priority to meet them physically just so you can prove to yourself whether or not they are full of it. for those that share "imortality in the context or reality that i have endured for as long as i have or longer, you know where i'm coming from on this topic.
Barnabas
never before have I seen such closed minded people.
<_< I was trying to give a reality check to those who asked to be immortal...and you take and turn it into a topic of whether there are immortals or not.
You know that was not the point...I merely wanted those who seem to believe that there is such a thing as immortality...just what they were asking for.
I personally do not believe in immortality...for even if you believe you are a vampire you cannot claim to be immortal for you can still be killed.
The point was a hypothetical one...a sort of what if...for those that believe there is a what if.
I do not claim to know whether immortality exists or not...as I have said before and will say again...this is merely a reality check...for those that have no sense of reality.

~*~smiles~*~ reality is what you make it. I have been told things I have seen just don't exist... who am I going to believe?

Your point is understandable nightstalker... and you should be used to threads taking on a life of their own. ^_^

But as Dead^Soul's sig says... it seems like a good idea...

So what about people who are used to everyone dying around them? I've lost my connection with the living, when they pass they pass, what more can you do? If ever the oppertunity presented itself I would have to think long and hard about living forever (Assuming the possible is valid, don't attack me on this It's just an example) but it could be done. I think it just takes a certain breed of person to be able to handle life as a vampire.

And I pride myself of being open minded... so there. :P
