I think there are at least two different paths to chose with your interesting question.
1) There are those who are the classic monster vampire, ripping out their victims throats, like a wolf and draining them dry.
2) Then there are those who take just enough to survive, letting their donors live. Some of these are the more romantic vampires.

Yeah, real romantic... hey honey, I love you, can I bite you on the neck, causing massive bruising and internal damage, possibly crushing your throat, so that I can be like a romantic vampire and have some blood? Yes yes I know, my teeth are not designed to puncture and so it's likely I will maul you, but christ, I saw it on a vampire board, it must be romantic!

For the less endowed fangs, there are procedures.

I believe that the outcome of such a meeting would depend upon circumstances. I don't eat every cake in a bakery. Even vampires would not like to expose themselves unnecessiarly to being hunted.

I beleive that it may only depend on the vampire.
If you go to a field where there are a lot of cows you don't kill them right?...and we humans usually eat them.
Same thing with vampires, it depends on the vampire.

I was thinking the exact same thing... Peoples mouths don't necessarly start watering the second they see a cow... expecially if it's just taken a dump.

Stop that, you're turning me on!!!
Okay seriously now...there is a human attraction to flirting with danger, so yes, even if they did just kill you, it probably wouldn't stop the legions of would-be victims out there.
It also depends on what your definition of a Vampire is.

No. Maybe a malvakian but the nobles would probably question you about why and such.

Ok, so... 'wouldn't they just kill you?' Yes, they will most probably, if not surely. Why? Because for a start, vampires are killers by nature, and it's no likely they'll decide to turn you into one just because. Now, even those more 'romantic' vampires, would be foolish of them just to feed on a victim and leave it alive because they'd be risking to future exposure.
Sure it would be probably a rush to be bitten (besides painful to death ;) and you'd lose a subtantial amount of blood. I'm certain it will be all of that, for a human, anyway.
Take any vampire from Anne Rice's books, for an example... they don't just go out turning into vampires every victim they found, do they? Neither would I.

walks through thread muttering to himself that not all vampires have the need to kill fo feed and that biting is safe and pleasurable if done right. Shakes head and wanders off.

Devil's advocate as its been a long time since I have appeared in the vamp threads.
a lore lesson to spice things up. The Vampire doesn't feed on the blood of the living to sustaine its self, it is animated by demonic forces, the draining of blood of its victims serves only to sicken and kill the victim over a period of many nights and potentially create more undead fiends.
SO my answer based on the myths, is yes, they kill, that's their whole purpose.
Somewhere down the line Vampires in stories got crossbred "merged apperance and behavior by authors" with the Succubus and Incubus to create the classical vampire we all know from the books and movies.

well sweety its not all about the blood, thats just a plus. Not all vamps are blood sucking fiends. Most can walk in the day and are apart of your very own community and society. THere are three on the PTA at my high school there are more than 5 on my street. seeing vampires is just knowing they are there and knowing which ones to confront. sorry you feel we are all these big scary monsters but its ok your only mortal
