Full Version: RV:Are we ruthless?

One of the many assumptions made of any type of vampire is the characteristic of ruthlessness, selfishness, or lack of compassion. Guiltlessly taking more than one contributes. I think most of us who know what we are know that this assumption is incorrect if we're speaking of vamps in general, but we all know that there are individuals who are ruthless, and its inevitable that some of those individuals live vampiric lifestyles.

Are you ruthless? Selfish? Do you gladly take more from the world and from others than you contribute? Do you connect this trait to vampirism, or is is simply in your character?

...As a matter of fact, how much of your character would you connect with vampirism? Would you say your personality is influenced by it, are you physically affected by it as far as strength and health goes? I know my answer to these questions, but I'm curious about the rest of you...

i think that the humans are just as bad as the vampires because they both kill and have greed and want power there is a never ending growth and everyone has it.

I agree, but I never consider myself ruthless. I take what I can to survive just like other vampires and others love the thought of killing and blood on their hands. But I also keep a code to myself: No children, No mothers, No fathers, and Try Not to Kill. I guess it's because the rulings of the Church still bears apon me, and I am very picky of the victims I take from. I still smile when I see children playing amongst themselves, laughing along with the other families as they curl up next to the fire, and I sometimes lend a hand to those in need. I guess it's just my way of trying to repent for my sins. So I doubt that all vampires are beings of Satan.

I wouldn't class vamps as ruthless and i wouldn't say that they were as bad as humans. Look @ it this way: Vamps (in some cases) kill to survive, where as humans kill for mere power, money etc. Although we are killers, we can not be classed as ruthless or monsterous, we're simply following that most basic form of instincts - SURVIVAL!!!

In any form of existence there is a need to kill, to survive therefore vamps are (in most cases) not ruthless. We simply are what we are!!! :icon6:

Good observation. Since we are free from certain mortal concepts like greed, power, and such, we just take what we need to survive. Like Native Americans, etc.

Well I think I can safely assume that most active vamps don't kill at all, and most only feed with permission from a willing donor. And my personal belief is that just as there are many types of people, there are many types of vamps, and merely being a vampire does not classify one as anything. However, some people, even vamps, let themselves fall into a stereotype. drk_phreak, you say that we feed for survival, which is not quite true.

Feeding, whether it be blood or energy, gives a vampire energy, liveliness, but one does not require it to survive. We are weakened by the sun, strengthened by the blood/energy of those around us. Therefore, avoiding the sun and feeding off others makes us stronger and more energized than most people, even gives a high, which is what causes many vamps to have quite a superiority complex.

My definition of ruthlessness is one who will stop at nothing to get what they want, without bothering to contribute anything into the world. Though I take much from the universe around me, I contribute more than my share by releasing positive energies into the world, helping others, and being humble in what I am.

Some vamps with the superiority complex I spoke of earlier like to think of themselves as a seperate breed. Just as humans are above cows in the foodchain, they belive vampires are above humans. At the top of the world. I, however, disagree. We ARE humans, who have chosen a vampiric lifestyle, one which best suits us. The few vamps who are really meant for this lifestyle and discover it are rewarded with great strength and clarity. However, this is simply how we live.

Ember_Katarina, your comment "But I also keep a code to myself: No children, No mothers, No fathers, and Try Not to Kill" implies that you have killed before. Have you? If so, how have you been able to get away with such a thing? Are you sure you're not living under the fantasy idea of a classical vampire? Because generally speaking, modern vamps don't need so much blood that we would require a life, and we don't drink from the neck or wrists, and use responsible bloodletting techniques, so death isn't much of a risk. Please explain, I'm curious...

Well this post isn't really the place to ask such a question, though I beg that you don't start a new thread for this question either, because I can't tell you how many threads have been posted, asking the exact same thing. Please just do some research online and around the forum. Read some of the other posts in this area that ask the same question... trust me, there are PLENTY. If after your research, your question remains unanswered, feel free to send me a personal message. Good luck in your search.
