ReVamp3d
A vampire is one who requires energy, that the body lacks the ability to provide, and requires feeding from various sources. This individual is not likely immortal in the physical sense (1 body). Cannot fly, (unless they have broken those mental barriers), and do not die in sunlight.

My two-cents.

agreeing with revamp3d a vampire requires energy source to stay healthy wheather they feed on blood emotions energies or anything else. generally when a vampire requires it physically they are able to use "superhuman"streingth or powers to get what they need done and most vampires real ones any more are not noticeable to the naked eye except by others trained to see

You know, when I last saw this forum, we were just starting to define this problem. And now at long last I stop in, and it hasn't moved an inch. That cracks me up. ^_^ Wow, this place looks different now. I like the new look, really. But, back to the topic at hand.
I believe that we have to define what exactly a vampire is before we can have any other intelligent discussion about them, and yet it seems sometimes that the definition itself is the one thing that holds us back the most here. Interesting paradox, really. Since it is not Sire's policy to get negativistic or exclusionary here, it would seem that the thing to do is to create a definition of vampire that covers all the bases, one broad definition that takes in all the possibilities, and then to create narrower definitions for subsets or specifics. One cannot say definitively that vampires have to drink blood. Suppose there was a creature that combusted in sunlight, lived forever, turned into a bat, could control men's minds, slept in a coffin, had no heartbeat at all, and could create others of its kind by biting humans, but it did not actually need blood to survive, it just really really enjoyed the taste. That would be a vampire, right? What if it couldn't turn into a bat, though? You cannot draw any definite lines at all, no hard-and-fast rules and no absolute qualifications. Maybe you could say something like, "It's a vampire if it matches three items off this list"... but what do you do when someone matches two items on the list and almost qualifies on five more? Sorry, I'm rambling. So, let me start with the broad definition.
Ahem. A vampire may or may not live forever, and may or may not age at an unusually slow rate, or even not at all, or possibly at a normal rate. A vampire may be born as such, or may be converted by another, or by itself, or by a curse, an odd twist of fate, or even no reason that we can observe or determine. A vampire may require blood to live, or crave it for the taste, or may get sustenance through other means, or may not need any sustenance at all, or may even hate the taste of blood. A vampire may have violent and energetic negative reactions to sunlight, or may simply become sleepy during the day, or may be fine with daylight. A vampire may or may not posess supernatural powers, and may or may not be able to pass as fully human on medical examination.
In short, a vampire can be pretty much anything, the only common thread really is that they identify themselves as a vampire. As far as a written, lexiconical reference, that is the only true definition. That is the only definition that will not cause continuous, continuing arguments. But, we all use our common sense and our perceptions to figure out what that means to us. We need to come up with some sort of full list of varieties, more than anything. But we already have a start on that, thanks to the terms "classical" and "HLV" vampires.
Thoughts?

what i meant when i started this mess was so many humans are asking where to find vampires and they either dont know what there expecting or just dont realize there is no one straight definition. it'd be like trying to describe hate in the ways of Aristotle. you answer one question and he ask you how to explain that answer over and over again. nothing is a concreate answer

I understand exactly what you are going through, and these individuals are just plain wrong, they are not vampires and I looked at the picture and this individual is not "turning" into a vampire because your friends aren't vamps in the first place,it's okay for them to believe this because all of our minds have imaginations but they are definetly not vamps,I believe vamps are born vamps not made and that we suck blood for oxygen that we get from the blood called oxyhaemglobin,we do this essintialy for oxygen, for we do not breathe with lungs but with a highly effiecient artificial cardiac muscle.I hope I helped. If you need more info,PM me.

hey darkvamp do you beleive people can be born with the soul of a vampire later to be awkened in life?
Eye Candy
Yes I do,I think anyone with the ability of a vampire is born with the soul of a vampire and then when ready,at any age,is awakened at any point and time.I awoke when I started my puberty stage.Hope this helps hun.

The literal definition of vampire is one that drinks blood.

a lore vampire actualy steals life energy through drinking blood, and gains powers that are above that of a normal humans. However it has dis-advantages too.

But what does it all matter in this day and age? I'm going to go stare at the Nite sky as I've nothing better to do, I'll see everyone tomorow night.
