I was reading a post "vampires or warewolves, which is stronger? " and it got me thinking. Are warewolves the huge hulking beasts you see in movies like 'Underworld' or are they people like the Druids who could take on the shape of an average sized wolf. Or is it that people just take on the mind set of a wolf and think they've become a wolf?

What's your opinion on the subject?

i guess theres the two kinds men who become werewolves when the moon is full and men who become wolves when they cast a sort of spell like in the book the hobbit theres a guy who becomes a bear...

Werewolves are classicaly negative...It's a curse or a disease generaly.

Wolf totems as used by the native Indians of America were used by shamen to take on the shape of a wolf for spirit journeys I don't know any druidic practices akin to this but generaly this isn't a werewolf as the shamen is not limited to one form he merely borrows it from a spirit.

thw wolf is the representation of power, leadership and fidelity in many cultures
so i think is a wonderfull animal.
The bat is considered as a parasite that takes life (blood) , also filthy. I never read a good definition or consideration for that animal.
Ravager
Well wolf means wisdom and bat, I think bats are asociated with the devil just because they're flying mamals.

And the wolf saped human means high level of knowledge, wisdom or experience, a bat shaped human means evil.

I believe that there is a range of strenght and knowledge that slides in each. You hear answers from people depending upon their own associations. I wish I knew a real answer. It is just that everything seems to be flexible in this universe.

I wonder what would happen if a werewolf and a vampire got together and had babies/puppies? Would it become a werevamp or a wolfpire or a vampolf? And let's say it is a werevamp... would the creature being known as a strong, smart, and elegant creature take offense to being second and kill the werewolf? Or will the little baby try suckling on the vampire? Or will it try to kill the werewolf and get blood that way? Or maybe it's just a wolf that turns into a blood thirsty being on full moons?

Sorry, just a question that popped in to mind... I dunno what to say about werewolves. I have yet to read up on them. I know some though.. three.

From what have read were wolfs have many different interpretations. In Norse folklore, people could become wolves or bears by magic. also according to ledgen the term were wolf comes about because men would don a wolf skin to get the strength an fury of a wolf in battle, the word berserk comes about in the same way but has to do with get ing the rage and bloodlust of a bear i.e. 13th warrior.
In modern medieval folklore a were wolf could get his powers from a witch or the devil him self. by saying a spell or by using a wolf skin belt a man could turned in to a wolf, not a wolf man but a real wolf, or he could use a salve that could turn him into a wolf. Many of these legends come from France, where at the time all bread was made from rye. If it stands to long or if the bread gets moldy it could have hallucinogenic properties. Making people believe they where wolfs or other wild creathers. This is called lycanthropy it is a disease that makes people mutilate kill eat living flesh. Many serial killers are diagnosed with these dieses (Dhamer, Ramirez, gacy, jack the ripper, and Ed Gaines the man who lecter, bates, and leather face are based on). Also according to led gin if a person was born on Christs mass or if they had a unibrow or if the where a basterd son of a priest they would become were wolfs. Slavic folktales say that if a were wolf dies it could rise from the grave as a vampire. in old illustrations they show wolfs walking on there hind legs to symbolize a man as a wolf but all the descriptions say that they actually turned in to real wolfs, Hollywood uses the wolf man look because it is more thematic and it just looks cooler.

Acualy,I know a werewolf personaly, and he's real nice.He can change whenever he feels like it,and he's absolutely beautiful. He's completely white with black tufts of furr on his chest, entire tail, elbows, head, and neck.He stands mostly on his hind legs, but when he's hunting or hiding,he stands on all fours. His name is Kren.

Did you know that only a few people have the ability to be chaged into a werewolf?Neeto, huh.

There is a difference in Wearwolves... Some are born with it, due to family heritage.
Others are bitten, and well, they become one.
Then there are those who want to be Wearwolves... I read somewhere about how to do it but yet the name and information hides from me... Been trying to remember...

The werewolf in mythology and tradition is a human who through the use of a special ointment or wolf belt can transform into a wolf. Usually these belts were handed down in a family.

But the bitten thing and the genetics thing are from horror movies and novels.

to qoute alot of people regarding werewolves who are constently haveing to debunk the popular ideas thanks to hollywood "the werewolf doesn't just bite you like a vampire, it rips you apart and eats you so even if the bite could turn there isn't anything left to become a werewolf.
and since the werewolf is created through magic it can't be passed on by genetics.

the only exceptions being some wolf shapeshifters that start off as demon wolves and can turn into a human shape "but than it isn't a werewolf"

Not always. Magic(k) in itself has a tendency to be passed on through family, even to skip a generation (or several) before it actively reapears. Shapshifting is one of the skills that are influenced by magic(k): It helps to have it but magic(k) in itself does not determine the ablity to have the skill of shapeshifting.

okay, nice opinion.
By the way you shouldn't use the (K) in magic, it makes one look like a poser when they change the spelling.
Magic comes from Magi so useing a (K) just looks silly.

It looks silly but some people don't know the difference between magic and magick. ...and it doesn't make one look like a poser, it is an attempt to appease to both those who and those who don't know the difference. :10:
Rhuen
Just saying around alot of the older members here It is generally viewed poorly to put a "K" on the word magic, like one is trying to prove something.
If terminology is really a problem than just use the proper terms for the specific kind of mysticism like necromancy, geomancy, elementalism, alchemy ect..,

Basically for simplicities sake folks just use "magic".

If someone comes in and is really aggressive about the useing "K" they tend to get singled out by folks so don't feel like you need to appease the people who like to screw up the spellings of words to make it look more magical.

Hey Im new here and just thought I would voice my opinion on Werewolves...

I think that they dont exist in the traditional sence of being a man and then becoming a wolf...I think it could have a lot to do with people who are rather calm, nice people, who get attacks of really intense rage (Blind rage), which in turn could induces superior strength.

I heard once on the news that full moons can cause certain mental states to manifest so maybe this is where it gets its nature/history from?

Just my opinion anyways.

I had werewolf friends in Europe when i was little and they took care of me. Then i came to america having to leave my wolf chuchu. Werewolves are real and they're very intellegent, kind, and nice and cuddliy. Fun to be with too. I wish i could be with my friends.
newfoundvampyre
well i am a witch and half werewolf/vamyre being a werewolf gets me respect where i live and being a vampyre gets me in fights in wich the outcome are horrible for the other person. lol i like it.

No claimes please to actually being these creatures. This section of the forum is for discussing the myths and legends of these creatures. Not for claiming to be them.
snakeye
Hmm, Werewolves. They are....Well actually I don't have a clue. Look at my post in otherkin. I mentioned something such as Lagahoo and Loup Garoo, These are the werewolves in my country.
