I have found that concentraion and total will power have a great affect on how you do magic.If I had to choose a magic to use for "combat" I would use High Magic.But you need to take it very seriously High Magic is nothing to fool with.
In high magic you summon very powerful entity's to do your bidding.But never forget the "three fold law".Make sure that karma is on your side and your actions in combat are justified.

Magic is not a cure all, I have many times refused to tell people how to do curses and such because no matter what their will always be a back wash of negative energies especially if you lack conviction or know what your doing is wrong. or if your target is protected by a guardion spirit or angel.

not to mention its just plane wrong under 99% of the circumstances to use offensive magic on someone as normal means like communication or the authorities if need be could solve the problem and with out the hassle of accidently letting a bogle into your house or something worse.

What could you achieve with a spell that you couldn't achieve with a sharp blow to the skull?

Obviously,someone who practices such magic would be responsible enough to use it wisely.So theres no reason to worry about such things...

I'm with Rhuen, magic should just be an abberation not a cure.

just because someone is familier with something, knows it in and out, doesn't mean they know what they are doing 100% of the time and accidents will happen and like with a gun you make an accident with offensive magic and tradgedy will strike.

Actually getting a stick and hitting themselves with it isn't a bad idea.

After they spend the time and money to get the ingredients together, spend the time to draw the precise symbols with the precise colors and get the precise words and stages of mind memorized and focused on and still abuse the offensive magic,
they might as well have just hit themselves in the head with a stick,

you should not use curses because any harmful spell you put on someone comes back three times worse a word of caution stick to healing

Learn Kung Fu...it helps with physical defence and through Chi channeling techniques helps you with the metaphysical..

I have a few questions How can you use magic for defence when you need it.Say you needed to use it within seconds how would you go about this?.

Say you was walking down the street and someone tried harming you then could you use magic to defend yourself?

I have walked alone through some of the worst areas of Europe and have never been mugged or attacked...It's a form of magic called (By Pratchett) Headology...I know what a victim looks like and I become the opposite...My walk, my stance, my tone of voice and expression all change totaly....I either become threatening or almost totaly invisible through the use of such subtle things as body language.

Actually its more of a martial arts move so one of those guys would have a better way to explaine it or teach it. But basically take the hand you write with make a fist, now extend just the index and middle finger holding them together. Now you focuse all your chi to the point in front of them. And with this by hitting just the right part of a limb or such you can cause paralaysis "basically you can over load their pressure points causing the limb to numb up and go to sleep."

The art of increasing one's stamina, speed and reflexes through magick (or similar, think samurais for another context) is merely increasing your own personal abilities and does not involve 'cursing' anyone.

Ancient Celts in Britain (not then) believed that missletoe dispelled spells. I believe this is why you kussed someone under the missletoe. You would not be affected by a glamour or love spell and would not marry the wrong person. Missletoe grew on oak trees that were sacred to the druids, A wtch I knew in Chicago imparted this to me a long while ago. I believed her.

Mistletoe was also the only thing that could kill the norse god of love. a connection perhaps.

I have always thought it was just a horrible parasite that is highly contagous and kills my trees. I mean if you cut it off you have to bleach your tools to keep it from spreading to other trees. Also it will grow on any woody plant it doesnt even have to be a tree.

I believe the one that shot the arrow was a blind man who had been given an arrow made out of mistletoe by Loki. As punishment Loki had to spend the rest of time in a cave with venom pouring on his forehead as he was chained to a rock.

but lets get back to combative magic.

I prefer not to use combative magic, since all magic I use is derived entirely from natural sources. I prefer simple charms and spells that protect without ever having to be ina combative situation. Another problem with my magic is the consumption of ingredients can be a little high, and anything too powerful would just be a waste.

There are other ways to use magic though, you could look into them.
