ok, now i dont want anyone to get mad at me for asking this question but i am curious.
What *qualifies* someone to be a vampire? like what makes a person a vampire? I dont want to be one, I just was curious about it, what do you go thru or what changes happen to you when you become one and how do you become one?
I hope you dont mind me asking, i just wanted to get my questions out. sorry if i offended anyone its not meant to in any way.. thanks for taking the time to look at this,

You are going to get some different answers to this one. ~smiling~
But I will begin ... the others can add to or modify as it applies to them.
What I will say here ... other then what I talk about below ... there are many things about an individual that must be present ... in order for most to define them as vampire.
So ... what makes a vampire?
First and foremost ... the ability to "take", and process something from another and incorporate it into themselves. Imagine a battery ... a vampire takes something and uses that thing to build back up or recharge themselves. Be it blood, energy, elements, life force ... they take to supplement what they are lacking within their physical form.
Now ... does absorbing these things make one a vampires ... no. All humans to some extent absorb certain things from their environment and the people around them. But it is most often not a conscious effort ... and what they are absorbing is excess or stray.
Vampires on the other hand can ... if they so desire ... "take" something from someone without that persons permission.
And even as I type this I find myself caught up in the moral aspects of this part of the vampire nature. But ... back to topic...
It is this "taking" that I believe to be ... one of the most fundamental aspects of the vampire.
Now ... don't get me wrong ... many vampires ... live quite peacefully within society. They exist off donors ... they "take," ... but with permission.
But ... the bottom line .... it is the fact that they have that "ability" ... that truly defines them.

i disagree with Olivia. it is not the ability to take that makes one a vampire. setting Sang's apart as a special case (mostly because i am still somewhat skeptical on the existence of true Sang's, and so have not yet found a need to work them perfectly into my theories), i would say that it is not ability that makes a vampire, but need.
anyone can be shown to be a Psi. well... anyone with the necesary degree of sensitivity. it is certainly not easy work, but it can be done.
what then makes a vampire? the need to take. vampires are people that, for one reason or another, lack sufficient inner resources to sustain themselves, and so must turn to others. for some this is because they simply do not produce enough for one reason or another, for some because they use far more than they have. in any event, it is the need which drives ability. it is easier to teach those whose need is great.
those that are born with the ability tend to be those whose need is such that they can't produce enough energy within themselves. those that are taught tend to be those that simply expend more than they can possibly produce. but that is by no means a universal truth.
Sang's are a special case in that their form of vampirism cannot be taught. Sang's take energy in the form of blood. but i would still argue that it is their need to take blood and not their ability to take blood that makes them vampire- in all honesty, anyone can drink blood. not everyone is it useful for.
*lightbulb goes on* hey, i figured out why people don't understand and often get offended by my theoires... i think of Sang's as a subset of Psi's as opposed to the other way around.... but that's another discussion.
so there you go. an alternate look at vampirism.

True Vampires... have a need, be it blood, or another form of energy.
Energy that cannot be made by themselves...
This energy can only be found within the body of another living being
Be it human or otherwise.
To go into more detail
Some used to believe it was a lack of iron, then... naturally can that we were not able to create our own hemoglobin.
Which follows as iron is needed to create hemoglobin.
Then came the energy theory, that somehow within the blood is a force of energy that is needed by the vampire. Which subsiquintly lead to the rise of Psi vampires, who survive purely on energy.
So now we have Sang and Psi both taking energy, be it through different forms.
There also is the evolution theory, my favorite
Humans developed into two different species. Preditor and Prey
Too far fetched?
Why?
We find vegitarians who get sick if they eat meat... why not the opposite
So these preditors, developed stronger, faster and lived longer.
They continue to look like humans as it is nessary for them to fit in amongst them.
In order to get what they need...
I'm rambeling....

I'll vouch for Jay. I'm a vegetarian, and have been for quite some time. I do get sick of I eat meat.
"It wasn't sensual or seductive, or any of those things people like to think vampires experience. It was a violation, pure and simple. It was being overpowered, controlled, knowing you were not in control, and probably would never be again."

There are basically 2 main types of Vamps.
Non physical Feeders and Physical Feeders..
Non Physical :- They feed on non Physical things like Energy , emotions , enviornment , to replace what they have lost over the past time.
Physical :- They feed on Physical things like blood.
For the Non Physical you have vamps like PSi, Emotional , Sexual , Social , etc...
For the Physical you have vamps like the Genetic , Inherators , Classicals , Sangui

I hear a lot of diff. stories of what vampires really are and where the belief came from. There is a disease, the name has slipped my mind, where people lack iron in them and become sensitive to light. They become very thin and for some reason the gums recede making the teeth look long and pointed. Sorry if parts of this may be incorrect, but if you know more please tell me if I'm wrong. But. there's a cure for this so this doesn't happen to people anymore. This was something that occured mostly in Europe and where the belief may have originated from.

I come from Eastern Europe and I must say you are right, There are many vampires in here and there are all pale and beatifull! I know that does not define them as Vampires, but that is true! I dont know if it is because they lack iron but they are Vampires and very fatal ones to! Most of them Christians but that doesnt stop them from doing things like seduction or mind manipulation! They dont drink blood though but they are always hungry and they eat alot but they are not fat!

One thing I forgot was that the people who had this disease would always have this urge to bite people to get the iron. That's why they had to stay away from people and hide or be kept hidden. And this sounds exactly like how vampires are thaught of today.
