Raven sat in the darkness on the bench in Harold's Park, staring at the moon and stars.
The sunlight shone on her long burgundy hair that fell onto her shoulders and down the small of her back.
Her grey eyes twinkled in the night.
She brought her knees up to her chest and rested her chin.
She couldn't stop thinking about him and the night before.
She kept thinking about the things he said to her and the way he held her.
He said he loved her and they weren't even a couple.
She kept thinking about the way he smiled, the way each side of his mouth curled a little at the end, his pale blue eyes that sparkled whenever he was happy, and his dark brown hair that fell into his eyes.
She couldn't get him out of her head.
She looked up at the moon and smiled.
She then looked around at the park, it was so beautiful at night, she thought.
She looked around to see if anyone was still around, but nobody was there.
She looked at her watch, 10:00 p.m., she was late for curfew.
She quickly got up, grabbed her bag and rushed home...
Raven got to the door of her house and ran inside.
Her mother and father were sitting on the couch watching T.V.
She stopped and waited for them to say something.
"Raven, is that you?" Her mother asked without looking up.
"Yes, mother." Said Raven.
"Where have you been? It is way past your curfew, you were supposed to be home an half-hour ago." Her father said as he got up and walked toward her.
Oh no, please don't get up, please don't get up, she thought.
Her father was standing right in front of her, looking at her, waiting for and answer.
Raven tensed up and looked at her father.
"I-I-I lost track of time. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to. I was looking at the..."
SMACK!!!
Her father hit her right in the face.
"I won't do it again...sir." Raven said.
"Louis! What are you doing? Don't hit her like that!" Her mother said, and rushed over to Raven's side.
Her mother looked at her face, then took her into the kitchen and gave her some ice so it wouldn't bruise.
Raven looked at her mother with tears in her eyes.
Her mother kissed her on the forehead and said, "Baby girl, I'm sorry..."
"No, mom it's not your fault. It's ok. I will be fine." Raven said in a little girl's voice.
Her mother pulled her closer and gave her a hug and kissed her forehead again.
"Well, I'm going to take my stuff up to my room and get ready for bed. I love you mom. Good night." Raven said and kissed her mom softly on the cheek.
Her mother smiled and said, "Good night."
Raven walked through the livin roomand saw her dad sitting on the couch again, watching T.V.
She quickly walked up the stairs.
When she got to her room she laid down her bag on the floor and sat down on her bed with the bag of ice.
She threw the ice into her trash can and got up.
She went to her dresser, opened up the top drawer, and pulled out her favorite silk nighty.
She pulled of her jeans and threw them in the hamper.
Raven walked to her dresser again and looked at the picture of him.
Oh, how she wished she could be with him right then, lying on the grass, letting the sun hit their faces, talking and laughing.
A knocking at the door interrupts her thoughts of "him".
"Yes, who is it?" She answers.
"Honey, I just wanted to say good night again and that I love you." Her mother replied.
"Ok, mom. Good night. I love you too." She says.
She hears her mother walk away form the door and down the stairs.
Raven gets her silk nighty and finishes removing her other clothing.
She puts on her silk nighty, turns off the lights, and hops in her bed, hoping to dream of "him"...

Raven heard her alarm go off and turned on her right side.
She felt the sun hit her face.
It felt so warm; she wanted to stay in bed all day, but she knew she couldn't, she had to get up and get ready for school.
She reached over to the alarm and hit the off button.
She laid in bed for a couple of minutes, thinking about "him" and how she would get to see "him" at school that day.
She stopped thinking about "him" and stretched.
She got up, went to her dresser, and got some clothes.
She rushed to the bathroom; she hated being last to get to shower.
Her older brothers, Rick and Justin always took so long and by the time it was her turn there was barely any hot water left.
She got to the bathroom.
Good, I'm the first one, she thought.
She shut the door and locked it.
She took off her silk nighty and looked in the mirror at her face.
She had forgotten her dad had hit her last night.
She examined her left cheek.
She had a light purple bruise.
She pushed on it a little, it still hurt.
Raven turned around and turned on the hot water.
She waited for the water to get hot and then hopped in.
She tilted her head back as she felt the water drip onto her face.
Raven started to think about "him" again.
She thought about how he made her feel, she was like a doll made out of porcelain, like she was so fragile, and one touch, she would break.
He made her feel good inside.
Raven's whole body tingled just from the thought.
She snapped out of her daydream and continued to take a shower.
She finished washing her hair and body.
She let the water run on her for a couple of seconds then turned it off and got out.
Raven dried off and put her clothes on, then walked back to her room.
She went to her vanity and sat down.
She looked at her self in the mirror for a little bit, and then she brushed her hair and dried it.
She took out her face powder and dabbed a little on her face.
It covered the bruise pretty well.
Raven got up, grabbed her bag, and then walked down stairs.
She could smell panckes in the air.
She got to the kitchen and sat down.
Her mother got her a plate and put some pancakes on it.
Raven took the plate and sat it in front of her.
"Sara, I will be working late tonight. Probably about 11:30 p.m. I will just eat something for dinner in the cafeteria at work." Louis said.
Raven looked at her father quickly then looked back at her pancakes.
She grabbed the syrup and poured it all over her pancakes.
She quickly ate.
"I'm going to leave early for school today." Raven said to her parents.
"But it is only 7:15." Replied her mother.
"I just want to get to school early so I can work on an art project." Raven lied.
She wanted to leave early so she wouldn't have to sit at the table with her father until he left for work about 8:00.
"Well, ok, honey. I will see you after school then." Her mother said and kissed her on the forehead.
"You better get your grades up, Raven, or else you won't be going to the 11th grade." Her father said with a smirk.
He always said things like that even though she was passing all her classs with B's and C's.
She nodded, got up from the table, and walked out the front door...

Raven always enjoyed the walks she took to school.
The smell of the grass filled her nose.
Her face felt so warm from the sun.
She felt her hair blow in the cool summer breeze.
It is such a lovely day she thought.
She looked at the light blue sky.
The clouds looked as if they were painted on the sky.
It was so beautiful.
She heard the birds chiping.
Raven started to hum softly and walked a little slower so she could enjoy the scener.
She turned the corner into the school parking lot and there standing by the big oak tree in front of Benjamin High was "him".
Their eyes locked and he started to smile.
He walked toward her.
"Hey Raven!" He said with a big grin on his face.
She was in sort of a daze from looking into his eyes.
Raven kept walking towards him.
She smiled.
"Hey Donny." Raven replied
He walked up to her and took her hand.
They walked the rest of the way to the building together.
He glanced at her and smiled.
"Raven, about last night..." Donny started to say and then trailed off.
Raven looked at Donny, waiting for him to finish what he was going to say.
"I....I dind't mean to scare you by what I said. But I meant it. I know we aren't a couple but we have known each other for a long time. I was just saying how I feel..." He trailed off again.
"Donny, I know. It didn't scare me. I was just shocked. I didn't know what to say. I just froze up. But what I meant to say was I love you too. I always have." Raven replied.
"It's ok, Raven." He said.
He pulled her towards him and brushed her hair from her face.
Raven got goose bumps from his soft touch.
She smiled.
He kissed her softly on the cheek and wrapped his arms around her, pulling her closer to him.
Raven looked up at Donny and put her arms around his neck.
"I want to be with you. I can't stop thinking about you." She said.
But Donny didn't say anything he just looked at her cheek.
"What happened, Raven? Why do you have a bruise on your cheek?" He asked as he softly touched it.
"Oh...it's nothing really. My brothers and me were just messing around." She replied.
He looked at her and hugged her a little tighter.
He kissed her forehead.
He knew she wasn't telling the truth.
He could tell it in her eyes.
She knew it too....
Later on that day she met up with her friends.
Leslie, she just met her that year.
Leslie came from Florida all the way to Orange County.
Leslie was a little shy at times but she was very beautiful, long blonde hair that shined when she was in the sun, that fell a little past her shoulders.
Leslie had sparkling bright blue eyes and those long legs, she was very tall.
Then there was Allie; she and Raven knew each other since second grade.
Allie was Raven's best and closest friend.
Allie had short dark brown hair that almost look black and she had those dark brown mysterious eyes.
Allie was really outgoing; she didn't care what people thought of her.
Allie just acted like her self.
Chad, he was the punk rocker type, always wearing bracelets that had spikes, and band shirts.
His hair was dyed black and short with spikes.
Chad had bright green eyes, he was very muscular too, very cute but Raven loved Donny.
Plus Chad had a thing for Allie anyways.
Then there was Mike, Donny's best friend.
He was tall and muscular. His head was shaved.
Mike's eyes were light brown. He was always in a good mood.
Rarely did you ever see Mike in a bad mood, he was known as the class clown.
Raven had lunch with her friends and talked about what they were all going to do that weekend.
Donny suggested they all go to the movies or the mall.
Raven liked the idea of being in the movie theatre with Donny.
"Yeah let's go see a movie. It would be fun, besides we haven't seen a movie in ages." Leslie said.
"Sounds like a plan." Mike said and grinned at Leslie.
"Well we will have to find out what movies are playing and what time we are going to go." Allie said.
"Remember guys I have a curfew on the weekends. I can't be out later then midnight." Raven said in an annoyed voice.
"I hate having a curfew." Chad replied.
Chad smiled at Raven.
"Yeah I know what you mean." The rest of the group of friends said at the same time and then laughed.
The bell interrupted them all.
They all gathered their things, said their good byes, and ran off to 6th period class...
The rest of the day went by really fast and the group of friends all met up after school by the big oak tree.
They talked about all meeting up at the park at 5:30 p.m.
The group of friends agreed.
Everyone left for home except Donny and Raven.
"I'll walk you home." Donny said.
"Oh no, you don't have to, really." Raven replied.
"No it's ok I want to." Said Donny.
Raven nodded and started walking.
"Raven there's something I've been meaning to ask you." Donny said.
Raven's heart dropped, this is it she thought.
He is going to ask me out.
Raven had been waiting for this day since 8th grade.
"Yes Donny, what is it?" Raven asked.
"Well, we have been friends since elementary school and ever since 8th grade I have liked you and wanted to be with you. I love you." Donny said as he stopped and pulled Raven towards him.
Raven looked at Donny and smiled. "I love you too." She said.
"Raven Michelle Jenkins, would you kindly do me the honor and be my girlfriend." Donny said with a smile.
"Oh Donny, of course!" She said and wrapped her arms around him.
They held hands and started walking again. They got to Raven's house.
"Well I will see you later then." Donny said.
"Yup you sure will." Raven replied and gave Donny a kiss on the lips.
Donny smiled and pulled Raven to him, he kissed her once more, then watched her walk up to the front door....
Raven got to the door and walked in.
She set her bag down on the floor and looked around, nobody was home.
She went to the kitchen and grabbed some cheetos that were sitting on the kitchen table, then went to the living room.
She turned on the T.V.
Raven started watching some talk show about out of control teens.
Raven heard footsteps and listened for a little bit then thought it was just her imagination so she started watching T.V. again.
But then she heard the footsteps again.
Raven looked behind her and there he was just standing there.
"Dad what are you doing home?" She asked.
"I just came home to get some papers for the law suit case that I am working on." He replied.
"Oh." Said Raven.
She turned around and started watching TV again.
She could hear her father walking towards her.
He got right behind her and put his hands on her shoulders.
Raven kept staring at the T.V.
She didn't want to make eye contact with her father.
She felt her father's grasp get tighter and he pushed a little harder.
Raven winced at the pain that shot through her shoulders.
He then grabbed her arm and pulled her into his and Sara's bedroom.
He threw her on the bed.
Raven backed up against the headboard.
She looked at her father and saw the anger in his eyes.
Why was he so angry?
He never used to be like this.
He used to hug, kiss me, and tell me he loved me all the time.
I was his baby girl, she thought.
SMACK!
Raven's father hit her across the face.
SMACK!
He hit her again.
"Why are you doing this dad? I didn't do anything!" Raven said as she could feel the tears start to sting her eyes.
"No you didn't do anything. B
ut you need to be punished for what you did last night." Her father said as he got angrier.
SMACK!
He hit her again.
Raven got up and tried to run out the bedroom door but her dad blocked the doorway and threw her back down on the bed.
He got on top of her and held her arms down.
She felt the hot tears run down her face.
She screamed for help but nobody could hear her, this had never happened before when her mother and brothers were there, this time no one was there to save her.
Raven looked at her father; his face was so red and filled with hate and anger.
He tightened his grip on her arms.
Raven gritted her teeth trying to show no pain.
SMACK!
He smacked her across the face again and threw her on the floor.
"Now, you won't ever do this again will you? You will never be late for curfew. Never again. You understand me? Never again." He yelled.
"Never again." Raven said.
He got up and walked out the door.
Raven just laid there till she heard him walk out the front door.
She got up and ran to the bathroom.
She looked at her face and saw the red marks starting to bruise up already.
Raven pulled up her t-shirt sleeves and saw the red marks that were shaped like her father's hands.
She turned on the water and washed her face.
Raven ran upstairs and got her powder; she put it all over her face to cover up the red marks and bruises.
She ran back downstairs, she looked at the clock, 5:15, she was supposed to meet her friends at Harold's Park at 5:30.
Raven grabbed her bag and ran out the door...
When she got to Harold's Park everyone was there.
Raven ran over to her friends, they were all talking about what they were going to do this weekend.
"Hi guys." Raven said when she got to the group.
"Hey Rave." They all replied.
Donny walked up to Raven and gave her a kiss.
"Raven what happened?" Asked Donny.
"Nothing...happened...my brothers and I were just messing around. Remember I told you that earlier?" Raven said.
Donny looked at her with a sad face.
He knew she was lying.
"That doesn't look like messing around, Raven." He said in a stern but soft voice.
Rave looked at him; she could feel the tears starting to well up in her eyes.
He brushed her cheek with his hand.
Allie walked up to Raven and gave her a hug.
"Raven, what's going on?" Allie asked as she pulled Raven aside.
"Allie, nothing is wrong, I'm ok, really." Raven replied with a fake smile.
"Raven, I know you better then this. Now tell me what is going on." Allie asked. Raven looked at Allie for a long time.
She turned around and ran.
"Raven! Where are you going?" Donny yelled.
"What happened? Where is she going? Why is she running?" Donny asked Allie.
"I don't know...I just asked her what happened and she turned around and ran. Donny I think something is seriously wrong and I just don't know what it is. I think one of her parents might be hitting her. But she won't come out and say it." Allie said in a frantic voice.
"We have to do something; we have to help her. I don't want her to hurt anymore. I love her, Allie...I love her with all my heart." Said Donny.
"I know...I know you do, Donny." Allie said.
"What is going on guys? Raven wouldn't run away like that about nothing.
" Chad said. "We don't exactly know what is going on." Replied Allie.
"I'm going after her." Said Chad.
"No, I think we all should go find her." Said Mike.
So they all ran after Raven...
Raven ran as fast as she could.
She didn't know where she was going but she knew she had to get away.
She felt hot tears start to stream down her face.
Why did I run away?
Why couldn't I just tell them?
Why am I so scared?
A million thoughts ran through her mind as she ran.
She ran into an alleyway and sat down on the ground. Raven started crying more.
She was scared and it was really dark in the alley.
She wish she wouldn't have ran.
Footsteps startled her and she looked down the alley.
She saw a shadow, a dark figure of someone but she didn't know who it was.
Raven stopped crying and sat very still.
"Hello?" Said the dark figured.
Raven didn't say anything; she just sat there in silence, waiting for the figure to find her.
She started trembling uncontrollably.
The figure got closer.
"Hello? I see you there. Just say something." The figure said.
Raven moved closer to the wall and hit a bottle; it knocked over making a noise.
The figure started walking faster towards her.
Raven shut her eyes real tight.
The figure was standing right over her; he grabbed her by the arm and lifted her up off the ground.
"Please, don't hurt me." Raven said
. "Oh I'm not going to hurt you. I'm not going to hurt you at all." Replied the man.
"Please...don't...just don't hurt me." Raven said again.
The man pushed her up against the wall and pushed his body against her.
Raven felt hot tears sting her cheeks.
The man started to unbutton Raven's pants.
Raven screamed.
SMACK!
The man hit her across the face. R
aven tasted blood, he must have hit her so hard that her lip busted open.
The blood started to run down her chin.
The man got Raven's pants unbuttoned and pulled them down while holding one arm against the wall so Raven couldn't get away.
"Raven! Where are you?"
She heard her friend's voices.
They were looking for her.
Raven screamed again.
SMACK! The man hit her again.
"Raven?" Yelled Donny.
The man pulled down Raven's underpants and inserted a finger into her.
"NO!" Raven yelled. T
he man heard the footsteps of Raven's friends and he dropped Raven to the ground.
The man ran away.
Raven sat there and cried.
"Raven?" Donny yelled again.
"Donny! I'm over here." Raven yelled back.
The group of friends ran down the alley and ran towards Raven.
Raven lay there on the ground with her pants and underwear still at her feet.
Donny saw Raven slumped to the ground.
He ran over to her side.
"Raven...what happened? Are you ok?" Donny asked.
"He-he started to rape me..." Raven said as she burst into tears.
Donny grabbed Raven and held her in his arms.
All her friends gathered around her to comfort her.
Donny helped Raven pull up her underwear and pants then helped her up.
He touched her face and kissed her lips.
“I am sorry I wasn’t here earlier. I'm sorry I didn't save you." He said.
"Donny...it's not your fault. You knew something was wrong and you came running." Raven said.
"Raven...why did you run away?" Asked Donny.
"Donny...my father beats me. I was to scared to say anything." Raven said as she started crying again.
Donny held her closer to him.
"Raven you aren't going home tonight. Not with a father who beats you." Donny said.
The group of friends all started to walk back to the park....
When they got to the park they all sat down and started talking.
"Raven, you know you can trust us. You should have told us that your father beats you. We all care about you and want to help in any way we can." Allie said and gave Raven a hug.
"I know I should have told you guys, I shouldn't have been so scared and ran away like that.
I'm sorry." Raven said.
Raven looked at Donny.
"What did you mean when you said you're not going home tonight? Not with a father who beats you? Where else am I going to go? All my family members live out of state." Said Raven.
"You will go home with me tonight. My parents won't care." Donny said with a smile as he looked at Raven.
"So do we still have plans for tomorrow night? Going to the movies or not?" Asked Chad.
Everyone looked at each other and nodded their heads.
"Of course we are still going. Wouldn't miss it for the world." Leslie said with a smile on her face.
"Oh man, I got to be getting home it is 9:00." Said Mike.
"Me too." Said Allie. "All right, well see everyone at school tomorrow." Leslie said.
They all said their good byes and gave each other hugs and then left except Donny and Raven.
They sat back down in the grass.
“Raven, are you all right?” Donny asked as he pulled her closer to him.
"Yeah, I think I will be fine. I still feel scared about that guy in the alley and about not going home tonight. But I'm glad I'm with you. I love you so much, Donny. I don't want anything to ever separate us or get in the way of our relationship." Raven said and hugged Donny.
"I love you too, Raven. I don't know what I would do if we weren't together." He said as he kissed her cheek.
"Oh, I better get a hold of my mom and tell her that I am staying with you tonight and tell her what's going on or else she will be worried sick about me." She said.
"Well lets start walking to my house and you can call her when you get there." Donny said as he helped Raven up off the ground.
They started walking to Donny's house....
They got to Donny's house and all the lights were off.
They walked in to the dark house.
Donny turned on a light.
"My parents must have gone out. They won't be home until late. You can use the phone to call your mom and let her know what is going on." Donny said as he showed her where the phone was.
Raven picked up the phone and dialed her number.
"Hello." Answered her big brother Rick.
"Hey Rick. Is mom around? I need to talk to her." Raven replied.
"Yeah Rave. Hold on and I will get her." Rick said.
"Hello?" Her mother said.
"Hey mom. Umm...I'm going to stay at Donny's house tonight." Raven said.
"Why? You should come home. Your dad will be here at 11. Plus it is a school night." Her mother said.
"Well today after school, daddy was home and I didn't know. He started pushing me around and smacking me. He told me that I needed to be punished for what I did last night. I was so terrified. That never happened to me before when you, Rick, and Justin weren't home. I screamed and cried for someone to help me...." Raven said as she started to cry.
"Honey, I'm so sorry. I really wish me or your brothers were home to help you. You should have left the house." Her mother said as she too started to cry.
"I tried mom but he wouldn't let me. He made me stay in the bedroom. I think we need to do something about it." Raven said.
"Honey, I love your father. I know he doesn't mean it. He is just having a hard time at work." She said.
"And tonight I was almost raped by this guy in the alley. I was so frightened. But Donny saved me. Mom, I really need to be with Donny tonight. Please just let me stay with him." Raven pleaded.
"Honey. Are you ok? Are you hurt? You should go to the doctor." She said.
"No mom I'm ok, he just smacked me and he got my pants off. He made my lip bleed. But I'm ok. He would of raped me if Donny didn't come save me. I'm ok though." Raven said.
"Ok if that is what you want to do. I just want you to be happy." She said.
"Thanks mom. I love you." Raven said.
"I know you do honey. I love you too. Will you be home tomorrow?" Her mother asked.
"Yeah I will be home after school. You will be there won't you?" Raven asked.
"Yes honey, I will, I promise I will be there.
I won't let your dad do that again. I love you. Talk to you tomorrow. Good Night." Her mother said.
"Good night. I love you too. Bye." Raven said and hung up the phone.
"Is it ok if you stay here with me tonight?" Donny asked Raven.
"Yeah it's ok." She said.
"Here let's take your bag upstairs to my room." Donny said as he picked up Raven's bag and started walking upstairs.
Raven followed.
They got to his room and Raven sat on his bed.
Donny sat down on the bed by Raven and held her in his arms.
"Donny, I love you so much. I'm so glad that I get to stay with you tonight. I didn't want to go home." Said Raven.
"I love you too so much. I am glad you got to stay with me too. I wasn't going to let you go home to get beat by your father again. Raven, you should do something about it. You should tell someone about what your father does to you. You don't deserve to be treated like that. No one does. I can't stand it that he hurts you. I hate to see you hurting." Donny said as he held her closer to him.
"I know Donny.
But I love my dad and so does my family.
He is just having a hard time with work and stuff.
I'm sure after everything is settled at work, as long as I stay out of his way, and not be late for curfew or do anything else wrong. Then I will be ok." Raven Replied.
"I hope so." Said Donny as he kissed Raven's lips.
"Are you hungry?" Donny asked. "Sure." Raven said.
They got up and went downstairs.
They got something to eat and watched T.V. for a little bit then went back up to Donny's room.
When they got to his room Donny gave Raven a t-shirt to sleep in.
They both got dressed and hopped into bed and went to sleep....
"No! No! Please don't! I beg you! PLEASE!!" Raven said as she tossed and turned in the bed.
Donny woke up to Raven having a nightmere.
"Raven, your just having a bad dream. Wake up!" Donny said as he started to shake her to wake her up.
"NO!" Raven shot up out of bed and started shaking and crying.
"Donny, I was so scared!" Raven said as she wrapped her arms around Donny.
"It was just a bad dream. Everything is ok now." Donny said as he kissed Raven on the cheek.
They laid back down and fell asleep.....
