Any citizens of the State of Confusion about?

If this mere shoutout contradicts site policy, I'm sorry. In the event of other Discordians showing, we'll have a discussion and justify it existing.

Perfectly fine for me...while we wait...care to tell about discordianism? :)

Discordianism may be a joke or it may be a religion. It may be a joke religion, or a religious joke. It may be a load of old cobblers created by a couple of Californian hippies but it's no less amusing for all that.

At the heart of Discordianism is a belief that current society, with its insistence that order is creative and disorder destructive, is really missing out on something. The Principia Discordia, the book what started it all, has a rather nifty diagram of this... a truth table crossing Creative/Destructive with Order/Disorder, bit like so:

CREATIVE ORDER DESTRUCTIVE ORDER
CREATIVE DISORDER DESTRUCTIVE DISORDER

Society as we know it is the horizontal axis, seeing Order as preferable to Disorder, and forcing the destructive aspects of Order on its adherents. Discordians prefer the vertical bias, acknowledging Order but poking a considerable amount of Disorder into the soft bits in the hope that it'll be tickled, laugh, and realise Disorder's not as bad as it's cracked up to be.

There's a lot of other stuff in the Principia, most of it concerned with lunatic conspiracy theories, the Goddess Eris (belief strictly optional), hot dogs and psycho-metaphysics, but the core message is summed up above. Oh, and there's a game called Sink which is great fun when you're drunk.

Hmm, I'm no discordian here, but I do believe life the universe and all that is a joke.

I have absolutely no doubts that "the answer to the question of the meaning of life the universe and all that" is 42.

I also have absolutely no doubts that the question is "What Do You Get If You Multiply Six By Nine"

And I likewise have no doubt what so ever that it works. biggrin.gif

Five tons of flax!

a quick question. how do you dispatch your fnords?
to keep them from eating you, how do you dispatch them?

The trick is to spot them coming and ward them off. I find a state of mania helps - playing 1000 Blank White Cards is a good way of inducing this. Defending other people is the hard part, and involves slightly more risk, as you must be lucid enough to deliver a coherent warning, and thus the fnord-warding state is harder to achieve. In such circumstances, a catapult might be useful.
