i was wondering what your thoughts were on what causes vampirism, i apologise if this has already been done elsewhere, personally i believe vampirism is caused by a gene mutation, this mutation occurs and lays dormant until a particular hormone is ingested, a hormone that can be found in the blood of others... (and yes i realise this doesn't account for psi vampires)

causes it?? If there was a cause....there would be a cure.....I know one thing for sure...wish there was a cure for Humanism.
There are beliefs that "originally" and im talking thousands and thousands of years ago, that our "condition" began as a diesease similar to AID's.....but I dunno if that is true. We have a totally different genetc makeup to humans, even different skeletal structure, and extra organ aswell....so the idea it is a diesease is farsical NOW, but who knows what started it??
If it was the case....then that would mean we were Human to begin with....and to be honest....I don't agree with that concept. Scientists seem to think the easiest way to answer a queston is to look at smiliarities. Take human evolution for instance....they think Humans came from apes. But despite what they tell you, they do not have sufficiant information to back up that claim. They only say that because Humans and apes have some similarities. The weirder point is, Human DNA is only 1% different from that of a certain species of Insect.......
Vampire DNA closely matches that of...hmmmm...*wonders if he should say*
well...you all think i'm crazy anyways so it'll make no difference
Canines...weird huh? So maybe we are a deformed breed of dog? And Humans are a deformed breed of Insect....
but thats ifyou believe in all that science stuff.....

*smiles* would explain the sharp teeth and heightened senses *shrugs* and scientists have proven humans to have a high degree of DNA similarity with banana's and bats, and every creature under the sun, which does suggest we all came from one, but that is another topic...

I don't have an exact answer for this question and I really doubt that anyone has it. But I have one more question related to this topic -- what causes belief in vampirism? Just suppose that there're no vampires at all as some "realists" say. So why so many people believe that vampires do exist?

i can answer you in two ways, either as me, a vampire... or as a member of the general public...
Disclaimer: the following is my opinion...
lets do the public, they believe in vampires because they seek immortality and vampirism gives them something to reach for, also vampires are very popular with hollywood so they are laid upon us from a young age in tv, movies and books, this leads to the formation of the fact they might just be real, and out of all the fantasy horror creature vampires seem the most likely, so they have been created as real beings, afraid of sunlight and all that crap, the beliefs that were formed as a child are given logic as the child matures, and therefore the idea of vampires carries through to adulthood, or is completely dimissed, it could go either way...
now as a vampire, i believe in what i am *shrugs* i admit it could be psycho-sematic (i think therefore i am) but i do not think it is

I have the disease i suppose. Anemia.
My skin has become pale because of it.
My eyes hurt when im in daylight because of it.
I can play with the emotions of women after i have had eye contact with them.
I have incredible reflexes. I DO NOT have "super speed," I just have really good reflexes.
I enjoy being bitten and i enjoy biting. Sometimes to the point to draw blood.
Feeding off of a person brings a sexual thrill upon me.
Unfortunately, I do not have fangs. That seems to be my only flaw towards whether i am a vampire or not.
To all of you I ask this one question: How did you become a vampire?
Prince

it is something you have to be born into as far as i know

i take it the belief that, if you are bitten you are turned into a vampire is false?

I am not a proponent for the "bite you and make you a vampire" ... group.
I do not believe that you can "make, embrace, turn or change" someone into a vampire.
It is a nature ... a core element of who you are. You are born with it.
You can alter your nature for a time ... but you cannot make yourself something that you are not. Nor can someone else.

Olivia, I also don't believe that anyone can turn other person into vampire. But I think it's possible that somebody (or something) wakes you up and makes you recognize your real nature...the nature of vampire. And in this case how can we know for sure that it is innate?

what you speak of Filinna is what has been refered to as an awakening.........
I say it's just knowing what and who you are...........
Yes, I have no proof as far as bloodline is concerned (still working on that) but I know I was born as a vampire......parents felt it wasn't nesicary to tell me I guess? <_<
Anyways.......maybe in a rare instance......a human could be 'turned'....but I highly doubt it........always room for the impossible in my book.....
Other than that.....vampirism is not a disease.....ones I have bit do not complain of wanting blood and whatever tv wants everyone to believe.......
to be a vampire is to be born a vampire......read the threads and all will be answered......just use common sence and your own beliefs on the matter.
