I'm new to the site, and I've been reading and responding to a lot of the posts. Through my reading, I have noticed a lot of you calling yourselves vampires, and I was curious as to what you mean by that. Do those of you that call yourselves vampires mean that you live a vampiric lifestyle, that you need to feed on the energy of others, or are, in fact, immortal?

I don't think many of us think of themselves as immortal as the general opinion here is that classical vamps don't exist (or am I mistaken?)
anyway, personaly I consider myself a psi-vamp since feeding on energy tends to help me function...

I guess most people will not label themselves as the classical vampire such as the ones you have seen in films and read in books. Although there is a different type of vampyre on this site that is called the modern Vampyre. These are real people that live in society but see themsel;ves as having a need to consume blood. I am not one of these. Although I do like the dress sense and the whole mysterious idea about Vampyrism.

I think that every one is a vampire in terms of the parasitical train of thought.
To answer the question; there are alot of modern day vampires; those who live the vampric lifestyle and comsume blood and energy. Personally I do not believe that Classical (Immortal) Vampires exist because of lack of validation. If they do exist; they have yet to show themselves.
Do you have any other questions???

Thank you very much for your input, and though I would love, more than anyone, to believe in the existence of immortal vampires, I'm afraid I must agree with you. Though immortality is a big part of the allure of vampires, and the whole concept of being a vampire. Thanks everyone for your posts, it's been a big help!

well most of the people that i know that say that they're immortal are strong believers in reincarnation, where they retain their personality traits and memories.

Assuming that's true, would that be considered vampirism? I suppose it would be if the person chose for it to be, but I think reincarnation is a whole different thing; although I suppose it could be viewed as another form of immortality.

*bows respectfully*M'lady,
If I may. 27 years ago I was involved with a young lady whom I called 'my Gothic Angel' - She was a fetishist and; more particularly, a donor or 'swan' as some call them. I tasted her blood, I liked it, I tasted it more and the more I tasted the more I wanted. She died in an accident and I immersed my pain and sorrow in the darkest depths o' the Gothic/Vampyre sub-culture. The blood became a substitute for her...it reminded me...
The late eighties and early nineties saw the rise o' the blood born infection panic and, if thou will pardon my droll sense o' humour, the "street supply" literally dried up.
So, I was forced to learn new ways to satisfy this craving for energy, for consuming, for taking from the world what it had taken from me. I learned to feed on the energy o' people around me. I still do and, whence the opportunity arises, I am still a sanguinarian or blood drinker.
Today I feed on energy in crowded shopping malls, parties, clubs, bars and the like.
If none other is available I will; if absolutely necessary to quell the craving, consume small amounts o' butchers blood (not from the butchers themselves o' course)
If I go outside for too long dread headaches plague me and, while out, I find that to remain comfortable I must heavily shade, or cover, myself - especially my eyes.
If I don't "absorb" energy for a short time, a great lethargy overcomes me and I find myself retreating into deep, and overly long, sleeping patterns.
I am not hundreds o' years old, I cannot fly; become a bat or a green mist... I am not immortal but I am a vampyre.
That is my humble opinion, what does M'lady say?
Respectfully,
H

Respectfully,
H Very beautifully spoken, and I do very much understand what you mean. I have spent much of my life living the same way, as are many people I know, but we haven't actually referred to ourselves as 'vampires', which is what brought on my curiosity. Though the technical definition of a vampire is an immortal, re-animated corpse, modern society has evolved the term to mean many other things. I suppose it could depend on what an individual believes a vampire to be, and what people choose to consider themselves. I myself don't feed on energy, only blood, and I have been very fortunate in being able to feed often.
If someone refers to themselves as a vampire, I will refer to this person as a vampire, and believe them to be such. I myself still do not call myself a vampire, more like a person who lives a vampiric lifestyle. Whatever we choose to call ourselves, regardless of how we came to be such, I've come to learn that it is a matter of personal opinion.
Thank you very much for your post, I have enjoyed reading it, and have learned something. Please do post again if you have something to add!

Yes, i concider myself a vampire but i am far from immortal. I think of myself as a vamp because i hunger for blood and when i dont have it i feal weak, i also really dont like the sun. The sun doesn't really harm me in any way it just pisses me off. I hope that helped some

I consider myself a psi-vampire. I feed off of not only the energies of people but plants and animals too. I have never drank blood yet. But if someone i trusted were to offer it to me i doubt i could pass it up. As Hawkmoor said, I cant fly or have any truly "special" abilities. I believe i am more in tune with the emotions of others around me but thats about it. I do not believe i am better then anyone else by saying that i am just different yet equal. I dont believe in Classical/Immortal vampires. but i guess its a fun thought to harbor and it makes great movies. To be truthful i would rather be "normal" but i have a few special needs. So to answer your question. Yes i consider myself a vampire.

From Websters Dictionary Copyright 1993
Vampire: n. In folklore, a dead person believed to rise from the grave at night to suck the blood of sleeping persons; A person who preys on others.
Of course if we take the second description to the nth level we can call just about anyone a vampire.
Do I consider myself a vampire? No. Have others considered me a vampire? Yes to the point of being very uncomfortable in my presense and to the point of trying to remove this "darkness" from my soul? Yeah... that was one fun party

Since my 14th year I have been blatently called out as a vampire by friends, enemies, and strangers alike.
I have to bring up the reincarnation bit... if Olivia were still around she would have a great explanation of this... but I will have to try to do. The idea of immortality through consciousness is one that is accepted in my mind at least. I cannot speak for anyone else, nor do I wish to because my faith fuels me just fine. Onward shall we tread?
Now when one dies and moves on to their next life, being able to remember all lives before that they have a gift... when keeping this gift requires the fuel of energy received in some "vampiric" form it can be seen as being an immortal vampire. I hope this makes sense.
Hawkmoor, your explanation has piqued my interest and I look forward to learning more from and about you. *curtsy*
Now since I have mentioned my existence is unlikely to be vampiric (at this point) there are symptoms that would make one wonder...
I have much sensitivity to the light, sound and scent.
The sun will drain me if I am out in it for too long and I must always wear 50 SPF sunblock but this is due to a condition called Lupus.
I have a need for my red meat to be cooked no more than rare as it upsets my stomach otherwise.
Psychologically I am in tune with people I know. I have visions and live very much vicariously through their stories. I recognize their thoughts sometimes before they do.
I am quite aware of energy and do take as well as receive it.
I have periods of time when my sleep will take up a good 16 hours of the day... I have severe headaches and crankiness at these times as well though I don't know if it has to do with the moon cycles... I do know eating a rare steak usually helps.
So what do you people think? Am I a vampire and just haven't reached that epiphany yet? :icon11:

:: Leans back on a wall quietly ::
Vampire, Vampyre, Vahmpier..Ai ya so so many names.....I prefer Nosferatu myself but...in latin that's Lesser Diety..(don't quote me on that)
Theres an emsence sense of ..Want..in the human condition always wanting more and something unatainable... I think many turn to the storys of vampirism... Now don't get me wrong I'm a firm believer :: Laughs quietly as he thinks of his Dear, Sweet Sweet mentor :: Now as for thinking of myself as a vampire?..Perhaps..Perhaps.. but I'm honestly not quite sure.. my eyes are naturally a yellow blue mix (they swirl..its pretty..) but I tend not to drain people of their blood....often... In any case I do find that when I haven't gotten enough sleep by focusing on all the chaos that seems to breed around my school (C'mon its highschool..plenty to spare) I find that others seem to get "worn out" where as my strength starts to return...usefull I supose.. :: Sighs some and shrugs :: Yare Yare { Oh Well }
Well getting back to my class now..Until the earth breathes her last

I am a sang/psi vamp. I have been for almost 15 years. I don't go around telling everyone that because I feel like if they need to know they can figure it out. I am telling you this, readers of this board, because you don't know me, and will probably never be in close enough proximity with me to sense it. It is also my little newbie introduction since I just stumbled across this site a bit ago.

why is there so many spellings for Vampire, Vampyre, Vahmpier?

Semi-Vampiric Right here.
I have bloodlust, but only at night, and none of the other classical vampiric traits come into it whatsoever.
I feel weak when I get bloodlust, but I sleep it off and in the morning I'm fine.
I understand how energy can be gained from drinking WARM blood, it still has glucose or glycose in it which can then be used. And the plasma idea works for thats as well. :icon12:

I do know what a modern vampire is and understand the differences between modern and classical and movie vampires and all of that, I was simply confused because by reading a lot of posts around the forum, some members simply like to drink blood and dont like the sunlight, while others claim to have supernatural powers and psychic abilities. I was confused by the fact that some people who have posted dont exactly match what I thought a modern vampire to be. After spending some time here, and reading your responses, I think I'm pretty clear on what everyone is. Thank you for your responses!

Hrmm... well I would say that's more about religious beliefs than anything else, and though some people link vampirism to religion, I think that is once again one of the aspects of it that is different for everyone, where everyone has their own opinion :-).
