My name is Luciano Teucrus Caligovita, which I have since shortened to Lucian Cole. I was born on the island of Corsica, in the port city of Bastia in the year 1357; the son of a Genoese Lord and a Corsican maiden. I was reborn in the year 1387 when I was bitten by an Aragonais Priest, the head of a religious order entrusted to protect Corsica by the Pope and the Roman Catholic Church. Soon after I was sworn into the Alaudae Nocturnus (“The Night Legion”, also referred to as “Night Soldiers”), a highly skilled vampire legion trained to defend the coast of Corsica from foreign invaders. For nearly two centuries I led the Primani (“soldiers of the first legion”) through many battles against the Arabs, Saracens, Spaniards and Franks. In the mid 1500’s political strife plagued the country and The Church began to fear the power of the Alaude Nocturnus. Unknown to my people, The Church had broken our pact with the humans and arranged to have us slaughtered while entranced in our day sleep. Only a few of us survived, being saved by human loyalists who shipped us safely to France. Shortly after the destruction of the Alaude Nocturnus the island fell to the French. The few who survived have renounced The Church and have remained in seclusion for over 400 years.
One day, when the cause is right, The Night Legion will rise again and bring the race of vampires back to glory.

In order to remain in the shadows for so long, you must be able to adapt and move quickly. Sometimes that requires you to change your name or assume another identity. Plus, my birth name is a mouthful. Being "alive" for so long, you get to see a lot of history, and sometimes you can even be a part of it.

Historically, Vampires are portrayed as evil, devil-made creatures. The truth is that we were loved, supported and protected by the Catholic Church. They used our fighting abilities to protect lands conquered by the early Roman Empire and to protect the Vatican itself. Once Catholicism had spread across the world, and the Church made new allies, the Vampire became expendable. We were eventually betrayed and nearly destroyed forever. To this day, the Church denies any coexistence with Vampires.
