Swan
Since there are quite a few new roleplayers here in this forum, I thought I would offer my services to anyone who needs help or advice. Now, I am not the world's best RPer, but I do tend to look at things from both sides and have a fairly good imagination if you get a case of writer's block.

Just a bit about me... My name is actually Swan and I've been a member of this site for almost 2 years. If you take a look at my profile, most of my posts have been made in the RP section. I have been in countless storylines and created several of my own. I consider myself a fairly good writer and willing to discuss anything, meaning I'll try anything once.

Please, do not think that I will start joining everyone's threads that they start, but I will take a look at them if you need some advice on where you think it should go or if there is a problem you can't seem to fix. I will join those that seem appealing to me, and please do not hold it against me if I do not join yours.

With all that being said, please feel free to ask away. I understand that this is normally the job of the mod for this section, but seeing as how there isn't one and our other mods are busy with other more popular sections of the site, I am offering my services to you. If there are any other members that would like to offer your help as well, fell free to post that you would here. I could use all the help I can get.

oh, cool.. Being a Newbie, technically, I have never really posted a character sheet, nor do I really know what is supposed to go in there, beyond name, type of creature, age, attitude, how died, and so on. Is there some sort of template for this that I can look at and make sure I am doing it the right way? anyone who reads this, any advice is better than no advice. I like to RP a lot, and I want to spice things up a bit without stepping on other peoples toes, or threads.

As you can probably tell, i am, a newbie to this to. I know what roleplaying is, but how does it work here? How do you start a game? What are the different ways to join a game? :help:

I will post a few different types of character bio's to show you what is basically expected and accepted.

Pier’s post for “The long hard road out of Hell”
Name: Lemuel, translated as "Belonging to God"

Sex: Male

Race: former Archangel, now a vampire

Age: Undetermined, but has been a vampire for over 2000 years.

Height: 6'0"

Weight: 170 lbs

Hair: Long, flowing gold (as Archangel), long, flowing, black, with a stray lock of gold (as vampire)

Skin: Bronzed (Archangel), pale (vampire)

Eyes: Brilliant blue (Archangel) pitch black (vampire).

Other physical traits: Six huge black wings, (were white when he was an Archangel). Wears a pendant with a bloodstained feather, typically wears a long, dark coat and typically black garb. Eyes shine blue when summoning powers.

Known associates: the Archangels Michael, Gabriel, Raphael, Uriel, and Lucifer (also known as Satan). Lillith, demoness and mother of all vampires. Juan Gris, a werewolf. Morrigan/Morgan : a witch. Father Duncan O' Malley, priest/scholar. Ciara O'Malley, his niece.

Known abilites: Mind reading and manipulation, clairvoyance and clairaudience (to some degree), use of Angelic weapons and spells, wings can be used as weapons and shields, vampiric strength and speed, flight.

Miscellaneous characteristics: When properly applied, his half-angelic, half-vampiric blood has the power to heal any injury or illness.

Background: Once a member of what is called the Circle of Seven, the core group or Archangels given dominion by God to enforce His Divine Will across the Universe, Lemuel was a rather unusual figure among the Circle. While the others had particular strengths, Lemuel was known for being the most introspective and the most sensitive of the Archangels. His loyalty and devotion is unquestioned - he's the only one of the Archangels who still refers to Satan by his heavenly name, Lucifer. He is also unselfish and stubborn , which caused Michael, the head of the Circle, no end of grief.

There is more to his background, but I just wanted a general idea here.

My post for “The long hard road out of Hell”
Name: Eve

Profession: While alive, a healer and midwife. After death, Satan’s little bitch; sent back to the mortal world countless times to perform little acts of mischief to please the Master and bring those who were damned to Hell to their new home.

Appearance: Usually clad in black leather pants and top, black trench coat and black boots, although has been known to dress in frilly dresses and scandalous night apparel to lure the unsuspecting into a world of sin and pain. Her blonde hair is always worn down and falls just above her hips. Piercing green eyes tend to remain hidden behind dark shades. She is always wearing a thin necklace with a charm on it with the initials “ED” engraved into it. Her tall, thin 5’10” frame as well as her ivory skin is something to be admired but rarely seen.

Talents: Extremely knowledgeable about witchcraft and healing, including herb and stone healing.
Can tell fortunes to willing and believing subjects.
Telepathy… only small objects when mortal.

Special Gifts: Increased vision, strength, knowledge and telepathy, heightened senses and immortality by way of vampirism.

Background: Eve was an 18th century midwife with a loving husband and beautiful daughter, Emma Diane. Most snubbed her and even whispered behind her back about her ways of healing and some called her a witch, but when it came down to it, all came to her when the healing of modern medicine didn’t help. Eve was not ashamed and considered herself a gifted child of God… until her husband and daughter were killed. A bunch of immature teenage boys who liked to tease Eve had set fire to the herb garden that she had planted next to her house. The fire grew out of control and the house burst into flames as well.

Aaron’s post for “The Death of Our World”
Name: Aramas Armadal
Age: 35
Height: 6’-4”
Weight: 230 lbs

Physical Description: Aramas is six feet and four inches of solid muscle. His razor sharp gray eyes give him a glare that commands respect and withers people of lesser character. His gaze is only intensified by his bald head, which has been tattooed with the House of Aramadals’ sigil, a birthright that all his predecessors shared. He has a cleanly shaven face except for the base of his chin where he has never shaven “another characteristic of being in charge of the house” his beard was roughly ¾” in diameter and neatly braided in a nearly foot long braid. Aramas has intensity about him, an energy that gives him a charismatic flow that commands respect.

Personal Info: Aramas suffers from migraines. In his youth he disobeyed his father and snuck out of the house one night to stare at the stars, one of his favorite things to do. Aramas was never allowed to be outside alone, being the next in line to rule house Armadal has it’s disadvantages when one is young, a constant escort was one of the burdens he had to contend with…
While out alone he ventured to far away and was confronted by a group of scavengers, being a child he did the only thing he could. He ran, and took shelter the only place he knew the scavengers wouldn’t follow, inside the Dead Zone. By the time he made back out of the Dead Zone and to the cave he had severe burns and his eyes had changed from a beautiful baby blue to a penetrating gray… Ever since then he has had migraines to deal with, they aren’t constant but when they come they are nearly crippling.
Aramas lost his father when he was twelve; He was assassinated by an unknown member of the Tribourne house and found dead near the entrance to the cave. His childhood ended with his fathers passing and he has was never really been able to cope with it, he loved his father very much, he was a well-respected man and a good teacher…

Personality: Aramas is a very fair and brutally honest man, he is kind to his friends and family and slow to anger. He has been known to loose his temper on occasion, and when he does someone usually dies soon there after… He is very overprotective when it concerns his Jordan, especially since the baby will be coming soon.

Skills: Excels at hand to hand combat “knows how to use his size and strength to it’s full potential”, Excellent knife fighter “very quick for his size”, Good tracker and hunter, Despises guns…

Equipment: Very large knife “could almost be considered a short sword”, Small throwing axe “larger than a tomahawk but smaller than a battle axe” Each hang in a crude sheath to either side of his hips.
With his knife in his left hand and his axe in his right Aramas is a force to be reckoned with. His ambidextrous attacks are dizzyingly fast and being as strong as he is few can stand up to him one on one…

As you can tell, they are all basically the same, but different. Any one of these are great and will please any of the fellow RPers on the forum.

Basically RP here is the same anywhere else. If you are equiped with a good imagination and a fairly good knowlege of sentence structure and punctuation, no one should give you any grief.

To start a new story, simply go to the IC Characters Wanted section and click "New Topic" towards the top of the screen. You can name it whatever you wish and so on.

Some people like to also make a thread in the Out of Character section asking for other people to join their story. I suggest doing this because it lets people know that you've started a new story and would like for others to join.

If you would like for it to be an "invite only" or want it to be for yourself and one or two other people, make sure to state this in your Description under the title to save future confusion.

To join someone else's story, a quick way to find who is needing characters is to go to Out of Character and read through the posts and see who is needing new people or just started a new story. Post a reply stating that you would like to join and give a brief character description or character bio letting them know what you are wanting to bring to the story.

Just out of respect, if there isn't a corresponding Out of Character thread for a new story in IC Characters Wanted or In Character, I suggest PMing the person who started the thread and asking them if you may join. For the most part, you will get possitive replies, but don't take it personal if they say no. It probably just means that they already have all the characters that they need.

lol... Silly girl! *blushes*

Thank you for the encouragement. I just hope that I can help more than do damage. I just figured, rather than complain about it, try to fix it, and without a Mod for this particular section I thought that one of the older members should step up and try to help... so me being me... I volunteered myself. :P

And yeah, I just realized that my PM box was full, so I emptied it and you can PM anytime you want. ;)

I'm sorry, this is a question that I cannot answer. If any of the other roleplayers would like to answer this one, feel free.
Aaron
T1 - normal RP, no godmodding... You can hit someone but cant say what kind of damage it does.

T2 - Inflict minor wounds, minor ass whoopin... Can't kill anyone.

T3 - Godmod... Kill em all, do what you will...

*NOTE*
How about pinning this thread?

You can be as many different characters as you would like to be. Some find it easier to stick to one particular character that way they can develop it more and use past RP experiences to their advantage and then there are those like myself that pretty much creates a different character for each story they are involved in. :)

As far as posting character bios/information, it's really up to you or the storyline that you are involved in. Some people find it easier to refer back to the OOC section and look at other members character description rather than stopping and asking where their character came from or if it has certain powers. If it is your story and you don't want to list it and remain a mystery, so be it and if you are involved in another story, you may want to check with the creator of the story and see if they require character information.

i have a question... rather than starting a story, i was thinking about a 'chat thread' similar to cinders couchroom in format, but with people talking in their 'trueself' erm, what i mean by that is sort of in character but still the same person.. for example, my 'trueself' is more outspoken, slightly thinner with long hair and is a vampire, of course, and i would love to have conversations with members talking in their trueself, not tied down by real life constraints... how would you best recommend approaching this....
Swan
This idea has been brought up several times before and at one time, there was a chatroom strictly devoted to roleplay. I myself am not computer savvy enough, nor do I have the time to host a chatroom for this particular purpose, but I like the idea. If you would like to PM me I can give you a rundown of previous conversations reguarding this and maybe run some more ideas by you. Once we do this, maybe we can get one started? :) Great idea!
crazy
ok someone's probably gonna kill me for asking this question but here goes. what is roleplaying? Isn't it when you just make an identity of a vamp or someone and talk about their life or something? My other question is why do people roleplay? thank u swan!
Swan
First of all... let me just say that no question is stupid and please don't put yourself down for wanting to know more about anything. ;)

You've pretty much got what roleplay is except throw in your imagination and let it run wild. To me, roleplay is a lot like writing a book/story but instead of you creating all the characters and deciding what is going to happen, you throw in several other players with different backgrounds and watching the story unfold right before your eyes. Just when you think something is going to happen, someone comes along and throws in a twist and wow... it's going in a different direction. It can become addicting and you'll find yourself on the edge of your seat waiting for a fellow roleplayer to post their reply, but be patient and don't get pushy. We all have lives outside of this forum and sometimes life and work keeps us away for a few days, but never fail, they always come back.

People roleplay for different reasons. For some it's to escape reality and go to that magical world that they've created here. Others like the interaction with the other players that they've come to know and become friends with. Myself, it's a little of both and also to help develop my writing skills. My dream is to someday write a novel and I look as this place as a stepping stone to get me there. Feel free to ask the other regulars around here why they roleplay if that doesn't answer your question good enough.

I'm not sure if you've taken a look at them, but I've posted guidelines for each section here in roleplay. Just glance at them when you get a chance to make sure that you are putting your stories in the right place.

Again, I'm always here to answer questions and feel free to ask anything. :)

Dear Swan
I am an old and very experienced table top rpg guy. I am trying to find out if anyone has converted COC 5.5 or 6 magical abilities to the new WOD. I know this may not be the right place to look for this info but I am posting all over the place. If you know anything or anyone I will be very much in your debt.
