Marcus
This is THE best zombie flick ever and its incredibly funny given the subject matter!

Anyway, you American peeps will be able to see it in October in time for haloween :)
Dolly Auto Matic
gasp! best ever?!?!?!?! I love zombie films! But will it be better than:
Night ofthe living dead/
Dawn of the dead (the original)
Retun of the living dead (ixnay the sequels),
C.H.U.D
Resident Evil
or Zombi?
I must know the answer because I love the zombie films:
"My worst fear is to have a bunch of old men my body, tearing at my flesh and eating me alive" (thats trash from return before her worst fear actually DID happen.)

See what everyone else is saying about it...
crawling darkness
i saw Dawn of the dead(new one) and then Shaun of the dead right after it and Shaun of the dead was sooo much better and funnyer.

Shaun of the Dead pisses all over any zombie movie ever made in my opinion. Zombie movies are generally a bit rubbish. Shaun of the Dead is a British comedy (so it might be a bit too intellectual for you colonial folks) which is actually funny. I enjoyed this more than any other film I've seen this year - check it out.

Alright, this movie has been out in Britain since April, but now we finally get it state-side.

^ Official website.

This movie looks absofuckinlutely hilarious, especially to one so fond of zombie movies like myself.

If the UK crew wants to give their word on its worth, that'd be cool.

And I must ask, is a cricket bat really that good of a zombie-killing weapon?
Heads = cherries?
Sara- Arlette
I love this film! I've seen it sooo many times. It's really funny.

Without giving anything away, it rips off Zombie movies, and the ignorance of the two main characters is unbelievable. Some parts are quite serious, but they're stupidly serious, and it's treated like an everyday situation.

It's very British! But I hope you enjoy it! :D
Saturn9
I'm actually quite a fan of British humor.
Sara- Arlette
About the cricket bat, lol, it's very effective, I don't see why though, you'd have through a fire poker, or something sharp, but i guess not many people have things like that lying around.
Saturn9
Yeah, American zombie movies definately have a lot more guns. Usually a 12g and a host of pistols for the characters.

But where as in Britain you have no firearms (I'll hide my sentiments on that one), and you have to fend off zombies with...well, a cricket bat.
Though Cillian Murphy did a fair enough job with only a baseball bat in "28 Days Later"...

...speaking of which, are there any nods to, or jokes made regarding "28 Days Later" in "Shaun of the Dead"?
Sara- Arlette
NOt sure I haven't seen '28 days later'. Sorry. But try www.imbd.com.

Maybe they have on there...

Personally, I have a sneaking suspicion that this will be too British for American audiences.
Saturn9
In what way?
Shadout
Because it is very British humour, with most of the jokes being based on Britain and the British way of life. The vast majority of Americans are not aware of what goes on outside 48 states (not including Alaska and Hawaii there) and so will probably fail to see why much of the film is funny.
Saturn9
You'd be suprised how many people on the coasts (the more liberal areas) watch BBC.
I mean, British comedy has come a long way state-side.
Obviously, there's Python, but there's plenty of old sitcoms (as pathetic as it is) that Americans love.
"Fawlty Towers" being one of my personal favorites.

And as far as recent shit, there's Ali G, who is perceived by most people to be hysterical or annoying as fuck.

Nicky Hornby is a popular writer here.

In the end, I think a fair amount of Americans are quite understanding to British life (we're not all as dumb as you'd have us believe...most of us are, but the people more open-minded and receptive to new comedy like the British shit).

EDIT: I just feel like I picked the worst examples possible and dug a hole for myself. Anyways, I like a lot of British comedy (some of it sucks, just like US comedy), but given my reaction to the preview of "Shaun", I think I'm going to enjoy the film very much.
Shadout
You actually picked a couple of good ones there, apart from Python - I'm not a fan at all. Most recent British comedy has been pretty bad, the main problem being that they have tried to imitate shows from the US and it just doesn't work. Things that are funny coming from an American are not necessarily funny coming from a Brit.

Probably the greatest British comedy ever is Blackadder (after the first season which was rancid), anyone who has ever watched the final episode of Blackadder Goes Forth cannot fail to be moved by it's poignancy. Red Dwarf was also a classic which has a pretty intense fan base over in the US which is well deserved because it is possibly the most unique comedy around.

Ali G and the other Sacha Baron Cohen creations Borat and Bruno are hilarious. A word of advice to you Americans who don't want to end up looking like idiots on British TV - don't give an interview to any reporter from Khazakstan, or any fashion correspondant from Austria, or to Ali G himself!

The other two great comedies to come out of Britain recently are The Office (which I believe has been remade for US audiences) and Phoenix Nights, which just defies explanation, but I don't think the States is ready for the magic of clubland just yet.
Mobius the Terrible
I saw the preview for this when I saw "Hero", it looks funny as hell.

Done by the guys in Blackbooks and Spaced...two of my fave comedies...I like it....
Shadout
Black Books is fantastic, I've never really watched Spaced at all though. The whole movie is pretty much a Who's Who of British comedy.

*Bump*

I LOVE this movie. Maybe not one of the goriest and best zombie movies ever made, and I don't think it's intended that way either, but combined with the wonderful humour, how can you not love it?

Heh... that's all, I guess. I just thought it deserved at bit more recognition than it have gotten so far. It's truly a marvel.
NightSky
Shaun of the Dead was AWESOME. It was beautifully put together, and used clever humor, not all that slapstick Bevis & Buthead humor us Americans are used to, lol. Unlike many comedies these days, this was a REAL FILM, with a real plot and characters you actually care about. It wasn't just a bunch of random silly stuff compiled into a loosely-developed storyline. Very cool movie.
Integra
I do agree that this movie was awesome!! I got the chance to see it a few months ago and now I want to own it on DVD! lol. Note worthy to add to a collection of Dead movies.

Speaking of Dead movies.... did you know that the director and the lead actor for this movie did a cameo for Romero's Land of the Dead?
Episkopos
Shaun of the Dead is one of my all-time favourite films. Really. I think it's because it's primarily about people being stupid, petty and generally acting like real people, albeit much funnier real people. There just happens to be a zombie-based apocalypse going on while they're doing it.
DerangedFaery
