We all know some so lets share.
Bloody Mary
About 100 years ago or so there was a woman named Mary.
One day she had a terrible accident and her face was scratched so badly that she bled to death. But her spirit could not rest.
Bloody Mary roams the world as an evil ghost.
If you stand in front of a mirror in the dark and say her name three times,
you will see her horribly mangled face appear.
If you dont turn on the light and run away as fast as you can she will try
to scratch your face off.....
The story of the ghost in the mirror has been told many times in countless variations this was just one of them. rip.gif
DONT TRY THIS AT HOME.MMWWAAA.HAHAHAHAHAH

urban legends yes, although I would prefer any none urban legend ghost stories be put in the spirits/ghosts threads 'such as personal experiences with them, but actual urban legends ghosts like Bloody Mary or white ladys or black shuk are okay and wont be moved."

also Bigfoot doesn't count as an urban legend nore does the Jersey devil or any thing that appears in mythology an will also be moved to their appropriate threads.

Amanda an urban legend thread is a good idea, I had run the idea in my head before but many so called uraban legends skate the line between regional myths and urban legend that I didn't think it would grow to well,

well we will see shalnt we? I hope it does grow.

and what better start than the ole bloody mary. ^_^

although the only time I ever saw here was after drinking some bloody mary.

Aren,t you glad you didnt turn on the light!
As told by Jon Little.
I heard about a girl who went back to her dorm room late one night to get her books before heading to her boyfriends room for the night. She entered but did not turn on the light, knowing that her roommate was sleeping. She stumbled around the room in the dark for several minutes, gathering books,clothes,toothbrush,ect..before finally leaving.
The next day, she came back to her room to find it surrounded by police. They asked if she lived there and she said yes.
They took her into her room, and there, written in blood on the wall, were the words,"Arent you glad you didnt turn on the light?".Her roommate was being
murdered while she was getting her things. rip.gif

Yeah, this is a very good idea for a thread.

*goes off and looks up 'urban legends' on google* :P

P.S. I just remembered this site, it's on my faves.

Urban Legends

That site just tells you what's real and what's not. *shrugs* thought I'd add it. Takes a HELL of a lot of time to go thru it all, I'm still not done and I've been looking at it since last month! But then that's just me. :)

Don't bother with Google, just go straight to http://www.snopes.com.

Have to disagree with you about your definitions of Urban legends, Rhuen. Black Shuck is a ghost story, as are any mention of white ladies.

An Urban legend is a story with these elements:

No-one knows where it started but such stories are possibly sparked off by a true event.
The aim of the story is to shock and/or surprise.
It is often told to you by someone who says it happened to a friend-of-a-friend, or someone they know distantly, and is told as the truth of a matter.
It often has some kind of moral subtext or comment on wisdom in it.
It isn't too far beyond possible - there are grains of truth within.
Elements of the story mutate to fit the culture in which it is being told. For example, a story about a celebrity will have a different celebrity as the star in other countries.
It is continually perpetuated.

Well, that's my definition anyway.

the first urban legend I heard was: my friend's cousin's friend went to a school where one day, in the middle of the exams, a boy threw down his exam paper, sharpened two pencils, inserted them into his nose and killed himself by headbutting the desk. Moral subtext? Don't take your exams too seriously, I suppose.

Well yeah, but still, lol.

I found this site too,

I'm currently looking at the top 25.

The Babysitters Tale
As told by Tara
In my home town,i was unfortunate to find out about poor MaryEllen. And from the time that i found out...i was sure not going to babysit a young infant.
MaryEllen was a lisenced baby sitter at the age of fourteen, she had gotten a call at 11am on a Saturday. The call was made from a woman who said she knew MaryEllen,s parents...Mary arranged to babysit the day after tomorow at 9,o clock.Well that day came, she arrived at the couples home and was told that the baby was already asleep. The couple left a contact number, just incase..and they left.Mary turned on the t.v..and she heard the phone ring, not wanting it to wake the baby she quickly picked up"Hello?"she said.
The voice on the other side replied in a deep and scarey manner"youd better check on the baby"she hung up,scared Mary quickly ran upstairs to check on the baby.He was fine, sleeping sweetly.Mary went down stairs, sat on the sofa. The phone rang again..she answered, the voice said"i told you to go and check on the baby".Now terrified she looked out of the window near by..she saw a person out the window, supriseingly close.Mary turned and ran up stairs to the baby,s room..she went in ..and found the baby dead..brutally cut into. Now in hysterics called the police..the police arrived and searched the whole house..they found a peace of paper that read..Only once did i do this..but i will do it again....
