it depends on the authors interpretation....normally it is: immortal fiend who drinks blood to survive....or something like that...

No-one can give you a definitive idea of what a Vampire is because everyone's idea is different. Surely you must have your own idea of what a Vampire is. Spend more time researching the myths and other people's experiences, and your ideas will gradually polarize into a concept you are happy with. Basically RESEARCH - we are not here to tell you what to think.
I've already mentioned that the concept of turning is taken with a grain of salt here. there are plenty of threads on this subject. Look around.

Aww, you poor man. Shed a tear, folks.
And for the question...you'll find that a 'vampire' is absolutely anything that survives by draining life from another being. See those ticks on your dog's back? They're vampires! Quick - fetch a priest! Fluffy must be baptised or shall face
ETERNAL DARNATION IN THE NASTIEST PITS OF HECK!Bwahahaaa...ha.

I would go by Anne Rice.
An eternal romantic undead feind who feeds on the blood of the living and 9 times out of 10 has homosexual tendencies
dragon of death

Wolfsbane, since you brought it up.... does anyone know the reason the talented Ms Rice writes her vampires as bi/homosexuals?
Just a thought that kept going through my head through most of her books, and didnt really know how to voice it till now.

Because she is a woman who finds large muscular and romantic men having sex with each other apealing. Hell, I'm not complaining!

i thought, if anything, they were asexual - to distinguish them even more from humanity.

not sure about Anne Rice.
but in the book "The Hunger" the clearly female vampire was discovered to have both male and female hormones and reproductive cells, however they had a problem when reproduceing as it would often prove fatal, however theu could "turn" humans. which didn't turn them into true vampire but rather boosted their life spans by a few centuries and required them to drink blood, however their human creations were in a sense immortal as they deteriated as human and became zombie like "more like a traditional vampire" one reason I liked this book "a mix between classical aspects and traditional aspects"
as for a definition
"any creature that requires to survive to drain something from their prey rather than consume the flesh"
this basic also includes many animal parasites as for supernatural I added on
"and has some enhanced aspect to it, as well as unusual limiteing factors not prevoiusly present in the prmary state of the organism it mimmics."

"reads last post and looks at food" thats just sick. you shouldn't think of your prey sexually, if I was out hunting and jumped a deer and bit its throat to bring it down as food, my thaught wouldn't be mmmm sexy, it would be "kill, eat"

actually your teacher was right about the Dracula book,
you see Bram Stoker wasn't writing a seroiuse work on vampires, in fact he barely knew anything about them, he was writing a satire of the rich play boys that were gallavanting around Europe in his time period.

Yeah I know, but that's beside the point. She's a teacher! Plus it's fun to argue with teachers, and when you ask them questions they don't know the answer to and they go awkwardly silent. Bram Stoker also wrote The Mummy while there was a mummy(not his mother, a corpse in bandages) in his room. Freaky huh?
Rhuen
Apr 19 2004, 08:21 AM
no, its not freaky, that story was as about as far from the myths as you could go, mummys never in egyption belief got up and walked around. besides alot of idiots in europe at the time had mummys "hell they used to use them as drugs "mummy dust" those people were messed up.

if bram strokers work was as stupid as you say then why does his work live on today his work is depicted as great novels and literature you cant say that one book is wrong because they dont know anything about vampires when in reality no one knows anything about vampires we go along on our own beliefes of what a vampire is bram stroker was a good author

I never called Bram Stoker stupid, I was pointing out the nature of his work, besides he is a great author to me , he created a new genre after all.

ya I heard that some of her friends or something were gay and they kept saying stuff about that there were no good homosexual romance novels out there while she was starting her vampire chronicles so she decided to write all her vampires as either gay or bi
