I wouldn't say they appear really weak...in most vamp literature there is a balance between excess strength/supernatural powers and vulnerability, without which the stories would probably be very boring.

Face it - if they didn't burst into flame in direct sunlight, and weren't allergic to french vegetables, and didn't crumble to dust at the sight of two sticks sellotaped together in the middle, it would be like reading a godmoder's roleplay - i.e., stupid and boring.

Indeed. Think about how boring all the Superman storylines would have been if he wasn't vulnerable to kryptonite, red sunlight, antimatter and magic. :lol:
POW! BOOM! another bad guy in jail. zzzzzz.....

invinsible= boreing to readers and movie goers and such, why they gave super-man his weaknesses, why they took away Wolverines un-breakable bones for a while, and why the strongest heros and villians always have some weird weakness.

Also the idea that the strongest and most powerful are harmed by something that wouldn't effect normal people is appealing in some way.

A bit like cheating in a video game like DN3D.

Many reasons...

Maybe they think it would make an interesting conversation piece.

Maybe they think it would attract gullible members of the opposite sex. (But then, they'd have to find someone more stupid than them...difficult, to say the least)

Maybe they simply don't realise that human evolution has far more powerful and interesting mutations.

Or perhaps they're bottom-feeding, brain-dead drokk heads who'll do anything to make themselves fit in with who and what they perceive as 'cool'.
