Because people associate vampires with wealth and power, living gods.
As in modern day we do not have a nobility of lords, we have our own living gods - celebrities.
While it's hard to say that an actor would be a vampire (with exceptions to Christopher Walken), a type of character like, oh, Marilyn Manson or Dani Filth - could easily be made into vampire.
I really dont get your statement though.
It seems to me you're saying that all vampires are rock musicians.
Or all rock musicians are vampires.

Vampires and Rock? I think we have Anne Rice to blame for this one: and she was only following the assumption that Rock = Darkness and questionable lifestyles.

lol, I doubt even Anne Rice deserves the blame for that one. The dark imagery of rock being linked to vampires was around a few years before The Vampire Lestat was published. Check out the movie Dracula A.D. 1972 for instance.

i think the thing you have to remember is that vampyres are supposed to be outside of society, and rockers are also supposed to be alike to this. Both go against the normal rules of what is right and good. Vampyres are seen as dark and mysterious, and rockers in a way have the same idea's about them. Also the main people that ae interested in the vampyre creature tend to be rockers and similar people.

hmmm I always thought of vampires as ravers, not rockers. Not to mention they can have blood poured over them from slaughter house drains, and take advantage of their victims.

Because, let's face it. A redneck vampire that listens to country music just ain't universally appealing, yanno?
Although, I would associate them with classical music, as well as rock, rave, or just about anything but folk or country. It's that appeal thing...

I think vampires are thrown into the mix with dark rock. Things like Type O Negative, Disturbed, and surprising to me at least AFI which according to the music section is a vampire band. I think the general label of "weird" encapsules the music and any kind of "freak" who listens to it as gothic in some form or another. of course i like that kind of stuff, but i have yet to know a vampire at one of the concerts.

Fuck Disturbed.
Id say the proper fictional vampires would be more suited to the real darker and evil side of music.
Bands like Darkthrone, Mayhem, Burzum, and Impaled Nazarene come to mind.
Not trendy nu metal crap like Disturbed and Chimaira ect.
They're hardly "outside of society" if theyre getting radioplay and air time on trendy music programs like the crap aired on mtv.
Ever read the lyrics of any of these disaterously gay nu metal bands ? theyre hardly anything id call remotely evil or dark.
Just the same old cliche shit, that youd think would get to bore an immortal entity such a vampire. (note i am still talking about vampires in fictional context.)

I see a few possibilities for the assumption that Rock Music and Vampires go together like.. something that goes together well with something else.
First up: "Goths."*
They listen to all their 'gothic music' like those evil kids Good Charlotte*.. and because they are constantly trying to be the gothest goth around, they need to do everything gothicy possible. And what's more traditionally gothic themed than the story of the Vampire. See: Dracula, Anne Rice... Blade movies, Underworld.. etc. So therefore, a common link between the world of rock music (alternative.. cant be listening to mainstream if you're a goth ;)) and the world of vampires.. are Goths.. fans of both.
Secondly we have: Rock Bands.
Those pesky types like Type O Negative and Cradle Of Filth.. either writing songs about vampires, or saying they ARE vampires. Note: See 'Goths' for further explanation of their reasons.. all comes down to image, and selling their music to these guys.
Third batter to the plate: The theme of Darkness vs. the common Vampire tales.
Brooding, dark haired heroic types.
Ultimate evil, demonic little bastards who ruthlessly kill.
Romantic bloodsuckers who charm their victims and just ooze with that deadly style.
These are your choices for vampiric type characters in your average vampire story.
Brooding, angsty types who arent well off because of situations beyond their control.
'Evil', 'I hate God', pro-chaos, 'satanic' types.
Stlyish, charming the ladies with their deep manly voices and romantic words, and their bodies oozing masculinity.
These are your choices for the average rockstar.
Now, do the math for this one yourself ;)
*Note: This is not an oppotunity to debate the meaning of goth. I mean the angsty white teen types.
*Note: Don't you dare assume I was serious about this. I have no idea why the hell people think Good Charlotte are PUNK, let alone GOTH.. This was a reference to what the angsty white teens (see above) consider to be goth (and again, see above.)

Let me just start off by saying Good Charlotte is not gothic. They SUCK. Ahem, excuse me...And now I'm going to voice my opinion on what gothic is. Now, not ALL people that claim to be gothic are like this, but I believe that most of the people that label themselves gothic are merely melo-dramatic adolescents who are too inexperienced and blind to realize that the world around them is suffering much more than they are.
Anyway, back to the actual subject of this board...Maybe it's because Anne Rice wrote a book, The Vampire Lestat where not only is that the name of the rock band the vampire joined/created, but that was his name, Lestat - duh.
But also some gothic/alternative rock music could make people start forming comparisons between that type of music to other gothic/alternative things -- such as vampires.

What the fuck does Good Charlotte have to do with vampires?
Why was this peice of shit yuppie band even brought up?
After this thread I've come to the conclusion that if a vampire were to front ANY band I'd put my money on Christian rock. No better front or cover than that, my friends.

Vampires are also often associated with classical music and opera, which suggest control, wealth and elegance, which I think corresponds more to the older vampire, but the aspect is still the same as with vampires and rock, only now a little more rebellious, because vampires these days attract youth more then anyone else.
But personally, this obvious link between music and vampires is too simple and asinine for my taste, I rather associate them with Black Metal and Industrial. :D

A little off-topic, but since you mentioned it -

Assuming that there are vampires wandering around amongst us - is there a pre-requisite that all people turned have to enjoy one particular type of music?
I mean - what exactly is the drill? Does the vamp get all fangy & then ask their victim if they prefer Cradle of Filth to the Backstreet Boys? Would they turn someone down on the basis of them owning a Britney Spears album? I suspect not.
I suspect that this vampire / rock link comes pureley from the rockers point of view. Most people get into music before they get interested in vampires. Seeing muppets like Dani Filth looking the way he does might well encourage an interest in the world of the strange, but it does not mean that people with more refined tastes in music (my opinion - sue me :P ) or perhaps people who don't insist on wearing black trenchcoats in the middle of summer can't have an interest in things such as vampires etc?

And besides, if there are real vampires, how are we so sure they even listen to music? Granted they were human before, and could have a connection of some kind to remember (Maybe that's why vampires are stereotyped fans of certain genres.)
We associate vampires with humans too much, I mean maybe they don't even listen to music at all. Maybe they don't even hear like we do, who knows.
(Opinion.)
But it's really hard for me to even consider the possibility of vampires existing when the group Korn is so often related to them.

It was ment as a joke... that's why the "^^" were there, it's a smiley...
Anyways, there ain't no such thing as "normal" people... it's a fact...
Other people think Rockers (Now we're talking bout Heavy Metal rockers not Soft Rock like boy bands n stuff) are stoners, sitting in their garages making satanistic symbols smoking weed.
As you said, Goth people are to the out side world, strange, mysterious, and by all means, Creepy. Because they have another way of living then most people does.
Also here, people think it's related to satanism, If you dress all in black, you're a satanist...
Satanist people makes sacrifices, so people think they like the look of blood, maybe even the taste, which makes them... Vampires, or... Wannabe-Vampires or such.
I am not a Gother, nor a Vampire-Wannabe.
(Although, i have to admit that i find Vampires rather cool, and an awesome thing to make research about.)
My thought of Gothers and "Vampires" are that they feel like they want to be 'Special' and the best way to be 'Special' is to change the way of living to something not many people are using, but still some, so that they aren't completely alone. This doesn't necessarely mean that they didn't have any friends or so, just that they didn't fit in among other people. So they wanted to show them that they didn't...
This is my thoughts as a "n00b with too much goth-vampire pride"
Like it or not, i don't give a sh*t.

Do. :P
I don't think Goths lead lifestyles so different then other people. They just say that, and act like everyone else who wants to be different. When you ask them if they're Goth, they say no, because generally they're seen as social outcasts and proud of it. They don't like other people generalizing them, based on that. That's why you never call a punk a punk.
I mean, Goths are often into thing like bondage and all that, but the truth is that some people, who most definitely aren't Goth, are more into it then they'll ever be. (Business man, for example.) But all Goths, apparently, are into it. Do they just say that because it's obscure and frowned upon by most people? Do they say that about anything that fits that definition?
I guess that's why it's hard to define what a Goth actually is, since they're so like everyone else, and have no precise way of life to link them to.

I don't think that there is much connection between vampires and rock.
Vampires being undead
and Rock being one of the most addictive drugs
I mean I think Vampires could get physically hooked on rock, they may even try alittle smack, but the correlation between vampires and Rock stops there, I mean the legend of vampires has been around a while, Rock has really only recently been introduced, comparably.
