Heres a story I wrote. I have borrowed heavily from a certain author...
Im sorry, but this story isnt about a Vampire at all.....its about an Angel
This is set a long time before you were born, in fact, it is set
quite some time before your parents were born.
It was before the great darkness had assembled itself in Germany. In
fact, it was the time of the great depression.
My friend Aziraphale and myself were in Italy. We had both been
tasked with a job involving an old lady called Miss Bernusconi. She
lived in the north of Italy in a small rural community. She was close
to 80 and had never been married, no children and no REAL friends.
Each year she would hire casual help to bring in her harvest of wheat
and barley. This is where myself and Az came in.
She gave us shelter in her barn but was quite suspicious of the two
young strangers who arrived at her farm. Especially so since Az was
stupid enough to bring his steed Molly which if it truly were a
mortal horse would have fetched a sum greater than her entire farm!
She had us both down as fugitives, horse thieves perhaps, but as her
father was a smuggler himself, she took us in.
Time passed and it was soon harvest time. Az was quite handy with a
scythe (dont go there) so we made quite a good team together.
Have you ever stood in the middle of a corn field as the sun slowly
ascends to the heavens?
The world takes on a warmth - a diffuse glow that makes you fall in
love with it. It is without a doubt, one of the most beautiful
experiences in this world.
So the harvest was brought in. Why were Angels needed?
The old lady told us a tale of her girlhood. Her betrothed, Rufus had
left her days before she was due to wed. He told her he was going to
the neighboring towns on the other side of the mountains to trade
some goods he had bought, but he was never seen again.
Az got up and walked outside.
Later on, back in the barn I asked him what he knew. He had taken
Rufus himself. Apparently there had been some kind of avalanche and
Rufus had been covered. Az had stayed with him for as long as Rufus
stayed alive and tried his best to comfort him in the final hours.
That night I had to know. I crept back into the house and opened
the "treasure" chest. Inside, wrapped in tissue paper was a white
satin and lace gown. Miss Bernusconi's wedding dress.
Az made the decision. One evening he rapped heavily on her door. She
awoke with a start and rushed to see who had awoken her.
As it happened, she awoke with a very final STOP.
The difference was staggering. She was no longer a woman approaching
80, instead she was a girl in her late teens.
I climbed astride molly and lifted her behind me. I took her to the
moment that Rufus was taken from this world and made sure that she
was there to meet him.
Last I heard, they were both doing fine together. She was a bit
pissed off that he didnt take care crossing the mountains, but she
forgave him eventually (last week).
Anyway that was just a little tale.
Is there a moral? Probably.
You decide what the moral is and then let me know.
